If Redden can slot in some meaningful minutes, this could be a great signing. Either way, low risk.

Everyone knows that the players here in St. Louis are only a product of Hitchcock's system anyway, so I'm sure he'll look fantastic.

Basically no-risk, potentially a medium/high reward. Wouldn't have minded it if the Bruins picked him up, good luck.

If you watched any of his games his last Rangers season, you'd know there are risks to playing him. I think he had a bet going on with Roszival who could give more slow cross the zone passes to opponents in their own zone

As a Flyers fan, I have no bias opinion here. At that price, he is a good pick up. Remember when EVERYONE said Souray was horrible in the AHL. Well, he got a 1 year shot and then turned it into a 3 year, 3.75 per year deal. So maybe that will happen here too. Again...good pickup.

Yea because Renney's game was high flying offensive.

I really like this move. With a shortened season any injuries could harm the team much, much worse. Can never have too much depth right now.

He'll be the 7th D-man. Nothing else to see here.

Woywitka to Peoria I guess. I'd be shocked if it's Cole.

I hope he does well. Glen Sather's FA spending should be capped by his employer

Blues fans would have a better idea, but I heard Russell, and Pietrangelo have been paired together so I'd expect
Russell-Pietrangelo
Jackman-Shattenkirk
Cole/Redden-Polak

With Woywitka in Peoria

He was quickly declining during his last years in Ottawa on a pretty stacked team. Doubt he plays all 48 games.

Hopefully he can make it to 1000 games.

I think his only upside now will be as a veteran presence in the room and during practice. Could maybe mentor some of the younger players and help them learn from his past mistakes!

By all accounts, Redden was a complete professional when he was demoted and through this whole thing. A good teammate and person. I've never heard of any off-ice issues.

I think it's a fine signing. Low risk, high reward. Very cheap, but the Blues aren't hurting for cap room anyway. To be honest, I don't expect too much from Redden this year but as others have stated, he picked a great coach and system to go to. One of the better defensive systems in the League, so he couldn't have really chosen a much better scenario to return in. This will make his comeback the easiest and could really help show if he's got anything left.

As far as the defensive pairings, I have a couple questions for Blues fans, as I don't pay too much attention to the Blues and would like to learn more. First, wasn't Cole supposed to be a lock this year? All summer long we had him projected as Pietrangelo's new partner even before Colaiacovo signed in Detroit. Why wouldn't he make the team over even Woywitka? Second, how evenly does Hitchcock spread out his defensive pairings? Obviously, Pietrangelo will stay on the first-pairing, but if all three pairings get pretty even amounts of time, I suspect Redden as his partner wouldn't be out of the question. However, I do recall the Colaiacovo - Pietrangelo pairing getting significant ice time IIRC, even though Cola isn't a true first-pairing guy.

Moral of my explanations is this: Blues have been looking for a good partner for Pietrangelo ever since before Cola left. Wade Redden isn't that guy, we should all know that no matter what. Hitchcock may end up putting Redden with Petro anyway, but he won't be better than Cola was, so he's not THAT GUY the Blues have desperately wanted. However, I do think Redden has set himself up in a position to succeed if everything goes according to plan. I think there's a chance he pulls a Souray and even earns a bigger contract in St. Louis or elsewhere for next year and there's also a chance he proves all the doubters who say he's too slow and not NHL-caliber anymore right and is done after this year. That remains to be seen.

Regardless, I still think he's an NHL defenseman at this point and can succeed in the right instance, which is on the bottom-pairing at this point with some PP time. I think if you expect anything else of him you'll be disappointed. If he can succeed in that role, I'd call his comeback a success. I'm not expecting any more from him. I'd say he has a good year if he can be a good veteran presence and not a liability on the bottom-pairing and maybe chip in some offense, hopefully on the PP. Anyway, glad to see him back in the League. For a guy that probably belonged in the League all along, it's good to see him back and playing, even though he's not the player he used to be. Still an NHL player I think and belongs here.

That is only for Saturday night as Redden won't be ready by then. Redden didn't hand pick St. Louis to be the 7th d-man on the team.

I have a feeling we'll see Cole head back to Peoria or traded.

To me this is why professional sports is so dysfunctional. The Rangers paid this guy (plse don't infer anything negative about Redden, by all accounts he is a great guy and a true professional) 5.6 miliion bucks to not play for them, not to mentions the millions they paid him to play in the AHL. Now St Louis is going to give him between 800 thousand and a mil to play half a season.

How long will it take for the majority of us to earn that much money (an I'm only talking about the St Louis deal)?

Sometimes you just gotta shake your head!

Being completely honest, but Redden was absolutely brutal in the AHL playoffs last year against the Admirals.

This is the equivalent of taking $800,000 and flushing it down the toilet.

He is not getting payed 800k to play 1/2 a season he is getting paid a prorated salary like all players are. He will make about 464k for playing 1/2 a season

Decent signing for the Blues. Redden should be a great veteran hand for the Blues.
