That's gotta make the tsn top ten for worst trades, especially if McDonagh continues to develop.

Can confirm multiple reports that Devils are among teams that have expressed interest in Gomez. Don't know how serious that interest is.

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
It sounds like Gomez could sign somewhere before the end of the day.

I think it's the worst in NHL history. It's not unusual to see one team end up with players that never play (or player gets injured and career ends) and the other get a superstar. It's unreal when one team is able to do a massive cap dump on another cap contrained team + get the better players, prospects etc. + overpaid player cannot even crack the lineup.

I cannot think of a more lopsided trade. It makes the Neely-Pederson and Naslund-Stojanov trades look fair and balanced.

Let's hold our horses a bit here, it's not like McDonaugh is a Norris candidate. From a cap management perspective however yes this could be the worst trade since the 04-05 lockout.

If Isles interest is real, Scott should go there...pretty much guaranteed the 2nd or 3rd line center position

I am surprised it's taking so long for Gomez to find a team, you figure he is getting a bunch of 1 year deals for roughly the same value and he just has to pick which ones seems the best to himself. At this point you think it would be better for himself taking a little less cash playing in a situation that he has a better chance to prove himself or win a cup

It sounds like he has a few options to choose from rather than no offers coming in.

I wonder if he has any multi year deals, that is the only reason I can see him not taking the best (1 year) offer on the table now

Wow. Can definitely picture him back with the Devils, although what will happen to Sykora? Thought for sure he'd be signed by now.

He could probably walk onto Calgarys first line beside Iginla. What a collection of terrible centres.

Agreed, it was a terrible deal, but Just a few points of clarification:

- the habs had a ton of cap space when they made the deal
- the habs have never lost a player because of cap constraints
- there were ways of getting Gomez off the books if the habs had ever needed the cap space.

He's being bid on. At this point he's going to get another 7.5 million dollar contract.

I'd be happy with the Sharks signing him. He'd be a great fit between Galiardi and Wingels on our third line. You can never have too much depth down the middle. If the Sharks sign him to a one-year deal worth somewhere between 1 and 2 million, that would be just fine.

Sweepstakes? More like winning a macrame plant hanger for 4th place at the local charity bingo.

Keep hearing Canes have no interest in Gomez, like roster they have now.

Gomez should come back to New York. Maybe we can trade him for another stud D-man.

Yeah, no.

Naslund was an eventual Lindsay (then Pearson) winner, Hart runner-up, 3 time first team all-star who was traded for an enforcer who couldn't do the job, then ended his career in a drunk driving accident.

McDonagh is a well-rounded guy with some additional promise who was traded for a grossly overpaid guy.

The first trade is miles worse than the second.
