Sounds like Rakkel gets a 5 game audition and if he does well DSP goes back to AHL, if he shows he needs development, DSP and Staubitz split time on 4th line.
Not sure about Lindholm actually. I remember someone noting yesterday that there were 14F, 8D and 2G at camp after the second last cut, as noted on the Ducks website. 8D would include only one of Vatanen or Lindholm.

Everything that happens on this team doesn't go back to Bob Murray. DSP staying last year was most likely Carlyle. The situation with Holland, Bonino, and Rakell is most likely Boudreau. The GM has a little input on the roster, but those decisions of who stays and who doesn't are primarily on the coaching staff.

Pretty sure Beleskey plays only left wing.
Rakell is more of a left or right wing?

I am stunned that Murray would consider Gomez but not Arnott.

Yeah, the GM makes his decisions based off what info the coaching staff give him. Ultimately he has the final say but it would be extremely rare for Murray to make a decision of who to send down/call up that Boudreau or Carlyle didn't approve of/ask him to do first.

Rakell can play anywhere (played some LW during the WJC), but I'm thinking the staff will limit him to just C and RW. And DSP can play either side. There's a bunch of combinations...

DSP - Holland - Rakell
Beleskey - Holland - Rakell
Beleskey - Holland - DSP
Beleskey - Rakell - DSP

And then some looks with Staubitz too.

I'm beginning to wonder...Is the competition between Beleskey and DSP or Rakell and DSP?

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that could be related to the Justin Schultz situation. But I do think it's quite possible.

I haven't seen that much youth on this squad since the 05-06 season.

@icemancometh: Ducks do put Sami Vatanen (foot) on IR. Club now at 23. Hampus Lindholm (concussion) did not skate but BB said he has no setback.

Getzlaf, Perry, Palmieri, Selanne, Ryan, Bonino, Koivu, Cogliano, Winnik, Rakell, Holland, DSP, Beleskey, Staubitz; Fowler, Allen, Souray, Sbisa, Beauchemin, Lydman, Hendry; Hiller, Andersen.

That's 23 active players not including Hampus. So what's his actual status? Back in Norfolk? IR?

Hey guys. I just wanted to ask about your goalie situation and how it is looking with Hiller. I ask because my brother is a casual Ducks fan and I have fondness for them.

How has Hiller been looking so far??

So has he put the whole Vertigo thing behind him or does he still suffer from it occasionly?

In that case it could work out. Didnt you make the Conference Finals that year?

I think we have enough grit to keep them protected.
Palmieri will be with Getzlaf and Perry. Holland can be with Beleskey and Staubitz.

We also have Winnik, Souray, Beauchemin, Allen, and Sbisa.

Well I know Beleskey can scrap I'm jus a bit worried for Palms. I remember we had Marchant and Parros to protect the twins when they first broke into the league.

Palmieri can take care of himself.

Vertigo hasn't been a problem since last off season. His struggles last season were from rust, overwork, a horrendous defense in front of him, and a stubborn case of onebadgoalpergame-itis.

It does go back to Murray, but more upstream.

In terms of choosing one of the young guys to stay, yes that's the coach's choice. But in terms of leaving the open so that there's no other viable candidates except the young guy... well that's Murray.

And Fedoruk for a bit, IIRC.

And again, Murray doesn't set the budget. Blame the owners. It isn't possible to have backups upon backups every time you break in a young player.

Sounds like a certain goalie on my team. He rhymes with Hiller.

No one's gonna give a rats ass about Palmieri. If he's playing with Getzlaf and Perry, those are the players the opposition should worry about. Also, the Ducks didn't have Parros when Getzlaf and Perry broke into the league... And Marchant, protecting???
