And the one to get the biggest return possible, IMO. Anaheim already has enviable depth on wingers in their prospect pool.

Getz would fetch more than Perry - despite what Perry brings to the table. #1 Centers are always harder to get ahold of than first line wingers. Not by much, but still more valuable.

Iginla gets traded this year or Calgary as an organization is as much of a failure as there is, they need to flip him for prospects and picks ASAP. 2 years down the line they won't be a better team and Iginla is just getting older and older. They need to start a proper rebuild and now is the time to do so, it's too late this off season.

I bet if he demands Leafs will give him 2 wives. Or even 3.

Nope. He will retire a Flame. It is what he seems to want and so does the team.

They wouldn't have brought in Wideman, Cervenka, and Hudler if they were even considering rebuilding. They also feel like they have done a decent job with mid round firsts and late picks with guys like Baertschi, Brodie, Gaudreau, Wotherspoon, Jankowski, and Reinhart. HF would disagree since they are rated 23rd for organizational rankings.

This. Although they could pay him slightly less and he would probably stay, but not a huge discount is what I am starting to think. Quite frankly I never thought Getzlaf would even get this close to free agency and still expect a deal before the end of the season. But should he hit the market it is going to be tougher than the Ducks think at that point. He might give them the option to match or he might really get sold on something and surprisingly bounce, they should not let him take a meeting from another team it is just to dangerous for a guy that would likely sign if you hit a certain number at any point before looking around.

If not for the lockout, I suspect he would be signed already. Getzlaf and Anaheim had discussions, but I believe Getzlaf said he wanted to see what the new CBA looked like before he committed.

I can see that, I did think he might sign before the CBA, didn't think that with Perry. Like I said I still expect him to stay in Anaheim, but they should do their best to resolve this in a hurry, him taking even one meeting with another team is something they cannot allow. I also would not expect them to give him up at the deadline. As long as it didn't happen to the Wings though, I would love to watch Getzlaf troll some team as rental and then sign with Anaheim after getting them more assets. The good ole Keith Tkachuk move, if it happened to Toronto after as often as they claim him their guy in the future it would be pretty funny.

Getzlaf, I feel pretty confident will sign. The terms, I haven't got the slightest clue. I actually think he is the type to take a bit of a discount too, though we're not talking anything major.

Perry is just an unknown. He's always kept to himself, and been a pretty private person. On one hand, that could be to Anaheim's advantage, because he can have that privacy if he stays, but the Ducks aren't the only team that can offer him that. The most encouraging thing is that, prior to Bobby Ryan being signed, Getzlaf and Perry both assured him that they planned to stick around. Of course, things can change, and Perry may just want a new start on a different team, or to cash in with a deal that Anaheim might hesitate to give him. Who knows with him?

Perry being a private person is why I don't buy anything about going to a Canadian team

Although I feel Getzlaf is all but signed, this is the epitome of a standard response. I'll get excited when the contract details are released.

If they feel like it and are still in drunk sailor spending mode, they could buy out on top of all that bonus money heater along with the money coming off the books they could be in on another big guy. I do highly doubt they have the financial muscle to do any of that, but who knows maybe they have an angel private investor coming on.

And yes I did notice the sarcasm, just was pointing out they could figure out a way to do it within cap rules if they really made that decision internally.

He's going to take a huge discount to play with Parise and the Heater
