I think Gomez would be a great addition to our third line. My only concern is that DW will throw him a three-year deal worth 4 million per year
If we can get him for under 2 million, I think it would be a smart move. Galiardi-Gomez-Wingels and Desjardins-Handzus-Burish is a pretty strong bottom six. Plus we have Sheppard in case Handzus still sucks.
Both Zus and Murray looked a whole lot better moving around the ice at camp than they did last year. It's pretty amazing what being healthy can do for a player.
And Kurz thinks Gomez sucks...I don't value his opinion on hockey players much.
Im loving this, Gomez > Handzus. If you read any of the FTF threads about why Gomez should be signed, they made a lot of sense. Gomez has much better playmaking ability than Handzus, they probably have the same amount of speed, but its his puck possession game that lets the play of the puck in the opponents end of the ice is what intrigues me.
Let me ask you this, who would you rather have center your 3rd line in the playoffs Handzus or Gomez? Gomez has always performed well in the playoffs, his last two appearance he put up 18 pts in 26 games. Not too shabby, he will bounce back with whoever he plays with this year.
With the Sharks depleted on defense, their top 9 guys will have to outscore their opponents this season.
Here's one of those articles, a very interesting read indeed:
There's something called depth and injuries, KK. Handzus is also a better checking center than Gomez so Handzus could center the 4th line and Gomez can form a scoring third line with Gali and Wingels. Or they could even spread the top six around and pair Gomez with Pavs or something on the third line like the Wellwood-Pavs combo.

McLellan says Handzus looks like a "changed man." If that's true, reported interest in Gomez makes even less sense than it does already, IMO

Naw, our players play through injuries. Didn't you hear?

Thats the stupidest thing Ive heard all day.
What do you expect from someone who shares the same initials as Kim Kardashian?
The latest from Kypreos:

Sounds like #Devils out on Gomez as well. His list narrows down to team(s) only in West conf. Best bet on #Sharks. No decis' expected tonite
Surprises me he's not going back to New Jersey considering his history there.
I do hope this didn't turn into some 'bidding war' as I don't care what the dollar amount is for a one year deal but I don't know that I'd like a 2 year deal considering the Sharks cap situation next season.

I am not sure about the details of the new CBA but does the player who got waived get treated like a regular UFA or do the teams just submit one offer and the player gets to pick one? I assumed the latter.

Gomez is a UFA, if he received multiple offers he can (try to) leverage one team against another to get a better offer like any other free agent.
I really have to think that this isn't about money as he's getting paid his full (well, pro-rated) salary for this season from Montreal. Whatever contract he signs for this year is money on top of that.

Yup.

Man, even with him in the line-up, our 3rd line is just one huge question mark - we are relying on three guys to have comeback seasons: Gomez-Handzus-TJ
