Nikita Zadorov or Elias Lindholm if we finish low-ish. Lazar if we finish higher.

Sounds good to me. Nurse or Lazar be ideal. Add Zadorov or Jarry with Anaheim's 2nd. Gauthier Or Yakimov Oiler's 2nd. Bibos as Oilers 3rd.

I would gladly overlook Lazar's (lack of) stats and take him in the first - worst case scenario would be a 2nd/3rd line tweener who can chip in 40 some points, hit some people, kill penalties, 2nd powerplay unit, important draws - he seems like an all-around player - any offense over that would be cake.

Here's hoping he slides to the Oilers

1st overall - Jones
2-5 Mackinnon > monohan > Barkov > Lindholm
5-14 BPA, probably a dman like Ristolainen / Nurse / Zadarov
If we make the playoffs we take Lazar if he is available.

Agreed...if Mitch Moroz - who was a reach at 32nd overall - played in Kitchener or Chicoutimi there's no way he's drafted that high. People are totally looking at Lazar with rose colored glasses right now.

Neither of those two are going to drop that low, Monahan would be the perfect 2C, big plays both ways.

I'm sick and tired of watching the Oilers draft Oil Kings. It just screams lazy scouting.

Lazar is only 5 11, I thought we wanted a player with some size though.

I feel like lazar is less of a mitchell moroz and more of a henrik samuelsson. Not in the skillset, but in his rankings. Whatever you say he is, Curtis Lazar is not a coke machine. I project the oilers finish around 15-20, and assuming that none of the high-end dmen slip, I think its fairly reasonable for the oilers to pick one of
Gauthier, Lazar or De La Rose.
To those who are saying that the oilers drafting a 2C would not make them immediately better, that isn't the purpose of a draft. If the oilers want an immediate replacement at 2C at any point in the next 1-2 years they will look to the UFA and Trade market.
The "Ryan O'reilly" scenario is rare and isn't something we should expect.

on a side note: I'm probably overlooking Dickinson as a prospect, but as much as i barely know anything about these prospects anyways, I have no idea about Dickinson, any info on his game? Off the top of my head I might've read somewhere that he was recent callup to the storm and that he is a solid but unspectacular prospect, believed to be a burgeoning talent. Can't recall exactly if that was him...

To be fair, Musil, Pelss, and Gernat weren't Oil Kings when the Oilers drafted them. They've only ever drafted 2 Oil Kings players. They took as many Vernon Vipers (BCHL) in back to back years as they have Oil Kings.

In fact, the Oil Kings have drafted just as many Oiler players as the Oilers have Oil Kings players.

Pretty sure they've only drafted 2 or 3 guys max from the Oil Kings since the franchise began, however, I could be wrong.

He's a tall, lanky center who's a really fluid skater, has a great shot/hands and is very good at protecting the puck.

He plays a lot like Jeff Carter, imo.

And when the Oilers trade for Samuelson that will be 5.

edit: I see now they were not drafted from the Oil Kings but traded to them. My bad.

Ryan Johansen is the guy I've always likened him to, and I could see him really rising up draft boards the same way Johansen did in his draft year too. I like that he plays all 3 forward positions. He'd definitely be a guy I'd like to see the Oilers look at with their 1st rounder this year depending on where they end up of course.

would you say he is more raw or refined, ETA to reach the NHL, and upside compared to the other centers I mentioned.

Of course it all depends where we draft Gauthier has the size that we want but will he be a legit 2C in the NHL.

I watch a lot of Oil Kings games (I'm at one right now) and I'm honestly not that interested in Lazar.

His name would not be brought up nearly as much as it has been in this thread if he weren't an Oil King.

Nurse looks like an absolute stud. Big, mean and tough with offensive ability? That is exactly what we need. If we could somehow get a top pick (by trade) and draft Monahan (who I see dropping around 6-10) and then draft Nurse with our pick that would be perfect for us. And then if Morrisey could drop to us in 2nd along with Lazar it would be a dream come true lol

I'd say his offensive game is decently refined. There's definitely some tools that will translate to the NHL there. Defensive and physical game aren't quite there yet though.

His NHL ETA is tough to say. He grew close to 3" last season, so he's kind of a beanpole right now at 6'2'' 170lbs. I'd guess he'll end up playing at least one more season in the OHL after the draft.

As for upside, the sky is the limit, imo. Good size, great skater, solid offensive tools. He doesn't have the defensive side to his game like the centers you listed, but I'd say it wouldn't be a stretch to say he's got a higher offensive upside.

Would you happen to know anything about Frederick Gauthier? His upside, ETA, etc.

There's a good chance we have 3 picks in the top 45. Remember players will drop and it's a crazy stack draft. Good year to get another 1st rounder.
