Strange move, after all the talk of butler being top/bottom 6.

Maybe Bobby Ryan is on the way back home?

The Devils isn't home for Bobby Ryan. The Flyers are!

Figures, eh? And Van Riemsdyk grew up a Ranger fan. Luckily he's out of the division now.

Something is up if he is playing with the 2nd powerplay. I don't think Lou would say he isn't good enough today and then tomorrow have him on the NHL team. That just seems disrespectful to Butler.

This confuses me. Don't we need him? I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't clear waivers.

I bet if we weren't clogging up the roster with all these defensemen, he wouldn't have been waived. The Matteau factor could very well have something to do with it. If he's gone after his 5 games are up, I can see Butler being brought back.

Also guess we NEED to have a goon in the lineup every night again. Even teams that don't have one in theirs. Goodbye CBGB line.
Every team in the East has a tough guy. Every. Single. One.

I don't understand why we're keeping 8 defensemen up. That doesn't make much sense to me.

He gives him a two-way deal so that if by some reason we do wind up sending him down. We don't have to pay him 525k to play in Albany, which makes sending him down a lot easier to do.

When will he ever be riding the buses in Albany though?

And yes I know every team has a tough guy. We have two right now, and I don't see the need for Cam when he can go to Albany. Our weakness is scoring right now. Not toughness.

Yeah but we have two tough guys. On the opening night roster.

Barch was a complete waste of a signing. To this day I don't understand it. I am fine with carrying 8 Dmen. It's good depth.

I'd rather use the spot on 14 forwards. That's where we need the depth.

Barch can actually sort of play, scored on a breakaway last year

There was one good sequence with Barch in the scrimmage. He had a nice rush up the ice. I don't mind having one, but two is unnecessary with the question mark forward group we have now. I understand putting one in the minors to bring up if the other gets injured. I still don't know why Lou gave Janssen a two way if he won't evoke the demotion to the AHL part. He could have just gave him a one way like he did for Harrold. Like someone else said, Janssen's two way is obviously in writing and name only.

Watching Barch, he seems like he's a lot better than Janssen. He looks like he can play a regular fourth line shift, we will see though. I firmly trust DeBoer, always have since the day he got here, he knows what he's doing and isn't afraid to make the change(s) he feels are necessary. Many of times they are the right one (see Harrold/Larsson rotation, Tallinder in the SCF, changing the lines up in the playoffs). All three of those scenarios, the outcome was awesome.

Exactly. Barch was a goal scorer in juniors. Yeah, he's not good enough to be the same player in juniors in the NHL, but it's not like he's lost if he happens to get the puck.

If it were up to me, I would have sent Harrold down to Albany. Not that he's a bad player or anything, but there are already 7 solid defensemen on the roster and in the event of an injury or healthy scratch situation, he won't get in the line-up. I would have preferred to keep Butler up over Harrold.

And yes, I get that Butler and Harrold are better Cam Janssen. However, in the grand scheme of things, I don't think carrying Janssen on the roster is going to turn this team from good to garbage. Yeah, I get he's not good, but at least he's entertaining and he's very well liked by the team, coaches, and Lou. I don't know about any of you, but having a guy like Cam around has to be good for team morale. Not to mention, he's also entertaining to watch (well at least if you like hits and fights).

It's funny, the only year in a while where NJ didn't carry a tough guy was a year where they finished below .500 and missed the playoffs.

Define sort of.

I think he's useless like Janssen. The only place for him is on the 4th line but you have to break up an effective line to put him there.

Barch is not a player who is here because of his skill with the puck. He is essentially a tough guy. He and Butler aren't playing the same role so it's not a fair comparison to question why he made the team and Butler didn't.

I'm questioning why Janssen made it over Butler, not Barch. Janssen is on a two way as well, and less essential to our needs right now. Barch should be the designated tough guy. Cam should be playing in the mens street league down the street from me.

I know reentry waivers are done with, but does Butler still need to go through regular waivers to be called back up?
