It's impressive that Gillis has been able to keep all of the defencemen under $5 million

$5 million per is better than perfect it's a god damned steal. He was in line to get a LOT more on the open market. Edler just took less money than JAMES WISNIEWSKI and MATT CARLE and it's not even like he got term. Awesome.

Edler left about 1.5m per season off the table to stay a Canuck. That is an unreal deal for a guy that would have had every team in the league lining up to sign him this summer.

Might have liked to see how he played in the early season, especially coming off the injury, but $5 million looks like great value.

If he has any type of decent season, Edler has certainly left some money on the table.

I like the signing.

Wow! Edler left a lot of money on the table. This is an incredible deal. I'll be wearing my jersey tomorrow! #fistpump

You win this time Scurr, although you would not move off that $4.6 figure, you are closer than my $5.6-5.75M But I was right he would sign soon after the season started, not at the end of the season!

I knew Edler wanted to stay in Van.

Actually it was just a guess, but when I heard the rumours that he was going to sign and it was only a matter of time, I believed them. He just seems like a humble, down-to-earth guy with a team-first attitude. We love you Edler!

Was gonna say the same thing. Didn't realize so many people had him pencilled into their lineup next season. They're bitter.

And of course Oiler fans as usual have to be bitter. a team that gave Taylor hall 6 mix and has never scored even 30 in this league

i want everyone who suggested that edler would be greedy to eat the trimmings on the floor at marc crawford's barbershop.

i want everyone who suggested that we trade kesler and edler for philadelphia's prospects and complementary players to punch themselves in the groin.

No reason why he couldn't make a run for it.

Anyone think Garrison might have played a part in Edler's willingness to stay(at a discount)?

Sure hope so, they seemed to have instant chemistry.

But wow! I was optimistic for a bit of a discount, but this is over and above. Can we stop trying to get rid of the guy now?

All three of our d-pairings have chemistry. This is awesome.

What a tremendous deal. It would have been an absolute shame to see him go after watching him develop here just as he's about to put it all together. Great numbers and to lock him up for 6 years is wonderful! YAY!

Good deal. An ACTUAL hometown discount. He could have easily got 6 million per if he reached the open market.

Why would Garrison have anything to do with it? I'd say its more because of the Sedins and this being his only home.

I'm thinking a trade of another Dman is on the way, they wanted to lock him up long term first.
