I think that's a shot at the media and how they've been handling the Luongo situation. Gillis doesn't need media members/cousins to do his work for him.

$5m/yr? Great deal for the Nucks. Solid player. Really rather not have to listen to the "took a discount because he hearts the organization so much" blather but he's clearly worth more so I can't really argue.

Yeah but he was a RFA, he had no leverage.

Edler was a pending FA the following year and could've been one of the highest paid players in the world. Not to mention you have a GM that personally broke out the signing himself on his twitter, how cool is that?!?!

I'm wondering if they wanted to get him tied up long term before trading another dman?

About what I expected. Vancouver seems like a team who can re-sign players below market value, ala the Blues. Good signing.

Wow, fantastic deal for the Canucks. I really, really wanted the Senators to target this guy in free agency to be Karlsson's partner. Damn

Say what you want about the Canucks, but they ALWAYS seem to sign their players to awesome deals.

Like maybe NEXT YEAR??? Edler makes 3.25 this year.

i think he took the discount because the canucks need as much cap space as possible to sign a wack load of people. pretty much edler take a deal because the team is great and if you want it to be great of years could you? good on him

That's assuming Luongo doesn't bring any salary back, which probably won't be the case cause Gillis would have already pulled the trigger on Luongo if all he wanted was picks. Malhotra and his 2.5m should come off next season. Perhaps Raymond as well. Lapierre would need a raise off his 1mil, and Higgins would need to resign as well.

I dunno but it now means the end of Keith Ballard finally. I guess Gillis is still waiting for the right deal to come along for him too.

I think this deal might lower Luongo's value a little bit because teams know Vancouver has to unload salary eventually, but who gives a **** when you have Edler signed to a deal like that.

He broke the Schneider re-signing on twitter too. Not the first time.

True.

Although PK and ROR seem to be applying some pressure...But MDZ isn't as integral to the Rangers as those players are, so it makes sense.

And Gillis definitely earned some street cred with that move.

Well Edler does have a wonky back, and has admitted himself that it will never be 100% again. Perhaps he thought he could cash in before the season started and not have to deal with potentially getting injured without an extension signed.

Maybe his agent is follow his wishes . I am an Oiler fan so I would like to see the Canucks get weaker , means my Oilers pick up more points against them . But if Edler is happy there , why wait until he a UFA . For more money ? He probably understand the cap is going down and wants to stay so he made a deal that pays him well and keeps him with the Canucks . Why blame the agent . The player has the final say . Good for him if he happy and takes a little less to stay . Funny people complained about greedy player during the lock out then when one takes less then market value fan question it .
Good signing at a good price Canucks fan . Good luck this season . My Oilers are still a few pieces away from Being a top team like yours

Yes. Sign with a team that is going to have a long period of relative success.

Also edler is a very quiet low key guy. Im guessing hes less interested in money.

This is a bi product of the Gillis years...god we wish that Nonis and Burke did it half as well.

we can still dump Ballard as well as both Raymond and Malhotra have expiring contracts. We aren't in as desperate a situation as some may think

Great deal for Vancouver, felt like Edler could've got more on the open market from a desperate team next off season.
