I knew this deal was going to get done, but me like many other Sens fan was hoping he'd test the market, so we'd have a shot at signing him.. Nice deal for you guys.

5 mil isn't exactly cashing in when there's guys like Wisnewski making more. Edler could have commanded much more even if he did re-injure his back in free agency.

Gillis is pretty good at re-signing players with a relatively low cap hit, and I am so glad that most of the players in our system agree. Excellent news.

A little slap in the face to the "insiders" just to say, you have no idea what goes on my office.

I think it is because of the way he treats the players, when players play in Van they want to stay. Not only that, he looks at the attitudes of players he brings in and gets rid of malcontents(hodgson). Good job by him so far.

I am definitely thrilled with this signing. It was crucial to sign him as he would've been the best dman on the market this summer and would have gotten a boatload of cash thrown at him so I'm surprised that he signed for 5M but I'm not complaining either. Perfect length as well.

What do you mean. He obviously loves Vancouver, they're a cup contender, money is arbitrary when you love a place and it's a great atmosphere. 5 million...yeah he'll be ok. lol

I'm pretty sure Edler told his agent to take a discount to stay with the Canucks

I keep telling people that players sign in Vancouver for less

Kesler Burrows, Sedins, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Garrison, All signed their deals for less than market value

Hell, even Lappy too if you want to throw him in there

Yeah even as a Leaf fan I have to agree, this is a great deal for Vancouver and Edler. He obviously loves the team and the city. He could've easily gotten 6+ on the open market.

Must be that BC kush , BC is a beautiful province aswell. I can see why a player would want to play there.

And to all those who said he wouldn't take a discount. Ha! Actually called five mil.

Hell of a deal for us, especially if Edler keeps developing.

The Canucks have this top-4 group for the next 4 season...

Garrison-Edler
Hamhuis-Bieksa

There is no doubt they will contend for the cup every one of those seasons with that as their defensive core.

Yeah, with Wideman at 5.25 and Carle at 5.5, both recent signings, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet Alex Edler could have gotten more than 5.0 in free agency.

A 6'4 220 lb stud who can hit like a truck and just put up 50 points last season - and is only 26 and still improving... I wouldn't be surprised if he could've been one of the highest paid Dmen in the league, if he hit Free Agency next summer.
