I was expecting him to get 6, this is a great deal. There is no doubt he would have gotten more money in the open market with the demand for D right now.

Great signing by Gillis. $5M for this guy is a steal right now, in 3-4 years when he's in the thick of his prime and the cap has gone up it's going to be even better.

What a steal! Gillis is amazing
The Canucks had 4 of the top 31 D for points last year, including Garrison, yet none of them are among the top paid...just crazy. Gillis is a great GM.
Rather than letting Ron Wilson derail the thread, let's all just kick back, appreciate our D-core and their contracts and let him make a fool of himself.
I like the signing, but I think he really needs to step up in the playoffs. I honestly think he is good, but he was terrible IMO in 2011 playoffs. He was ok last year. He is pretty good in the regular season.
Good signing regardless. That will be about 23 million on 5 dmen. Gotta dump Ballard
Can't believe they locked Edler up for 6-years at $5M (UFA years) while PK Subban wants $6M a season from us.
Maybe he is looking at the Myers extension for leverage. Myers got 6m/year from us, though Myers did have 49 points in his rookie season and win the Calder. I don't think Subban is as valuable of a player though.
