Only 5 mill per year for Edler. Gillis is a wizard.

I've been a Sens fan for 16 years and not once has this team ever signed a significant UFA... Well maybe Hasek but he was coming off a down year... It just does not happen to the people who pencil stars into the lineup.

We never get high end talent for free

I think there was hope with Elder being friends with Alfy and maybe wanting to play with Karlsson.

Closest we have gotten to being of interest to anyone good.
Besides, I suspected we would have paid him more than what vancouver did.

I can't think of many teams that consistently do except NYR and Philly.

No, no, no, no, no.

Don't you get it? Every single UFA wants to sign with Ottawa and no other team is allowed to make offers to the player unless we don't want him. So we'll be getting Perry, Getzlaf and possibly Smid if we still have room.

Exactly this, I wouldn't be surprised if Latendresse ends up being one of our better UFA signings in the last 10 years, and I don't think he will set the world on fire per-say.

How has he proven is that he only wants to play for contenders? He has been with the same team that drafted him his entire career?

Saying he would have to be our 3rd line center is different than saying you want Turris here because you don't think Getzlaf would come to Ottawa.

I am not saying we can get him but if we could, he would be the #2 center and we would be a better team because of it.

So what's thought to be coming back our way if Bishop is traded to Edmonton?

You said Getzlaf - should he sign here - would be our 3C. That's not a slight exaggeration, it's gross exaggeration. Getzlaf is easily a better player than Turris, even if Turris becomes a legit 2C.

You know we are talking about Getzlaf here right? Won World Championship, won Olympics with team Canada...

He was a 3rd line center in 2007 and it was his first full season in the league yet he still put up 17 points in 21 playoff games and was on the Cup winning team.

Since then he has had one "off" year by his standards and that was last season on a Ducks team where everything went wrong (wasn't long ago everyone one the Senators sucked for a season too). If you look at his career after that Cup season minus last seasons 57 points in 82 games (he is also quite durable for a physical player) he has 291 games played and 318 points. Even with the bad season in there he is over 1PPG...

To say he has done nothing or to think he wouldn't be a huge upgrade for the Sens is just not accurate. He would be a huge addition to this team.

I was beginning to wonder if Getzlaf was a figment of my imagination...the guy is a stud.

Roughly PPG and has led Anaheim to upset a 1st seeded San Jose team (if I recall correctly).

He had a bad season last year, but I can't help but think it's an aberration.

Good question. I honestly don't know what he is worth at this point. If we trade him to Edmonton he will back up Dubnyk to start, but may get more playing time if Dubby struggles. Maybe a 2nd round pick?

I would be so pissed if they traded Bishop for Plante lol. Plante is nothing special at all.

Really? I see a potential reliable defender. Big guy who can fight, has that edge to him.

I'd eat my hat if Plante ever was more then a bottom pairing defenceman. I think a goalie like Bishop has more value then a guy like Plante.

I guess I overvalued Plante, would definitely not mind Marincin though that's for sure.
