Now dump ballard and booth next year, cap issues solved. (booth more for injury concerns), trade luongo, and we have literally NO bad contracts

Good signing regardless. That will be about 23 million on 5 dmen. Gotta dump Ballard
Interesting. I thought he was much better in the 2011 playoffs than 2012.

because he would actually have to make the playoffs in order to embarrass himself.

Lol we'll see how he does, I really believe he should get the first start over Reimer. He's played all year and is ready to go, from what I've seen from the scrimmage Reimer doesn't look ready just yet.

Keep in mind Edler was "injured" for most of the lockout, meaning he got paid for this year. Garrison was also "injured" and was paid as well. Both made amazing recoveries before the lockout ended.

Who's to say loyalty doesn't go two ways? Edler got a little loyalty thrown his way during the lockout, and he rewards the Canucks with a hometown discount.

Bieksa and Hamhuis also had signing bonuses that allowed salary to effectively be paid during the lockout. They signed somewhat below market value as well.

Gillis is a former agent and knows exactly how to manage the system.

I wouldn't DARE suggest that they've done anything untoward here. Just sayin' is all...

As to signing players next year, it's called off season moves. A great deal of teams do the same thing every year. One area that will help is 2.5 million dollars fourth line center coming off the books.

Wow... that's an incredibly price. Congrats to Canucks fans and be HAHA to all of the fans of the other teams out there who didn't think they'd be able to retain Edler.

Man... I'm jealous!

I wouldn't have said this before the signing for obvious reasons... but I know Edler's longterm GF is from Vancouver and she wanted him to stay... combined with MG's god like gm skills, that's why he took less to stay

Gillis really is fantastic. I'm jealous. He's extended all of his stars on great deals, made nothing but great UFA decisions, and managed to add value on the cheap. Fantastic GM.

Most likely, but signing Edler was probably near the top of the list of things to do for GMMG. Can't let the Luongo situation freeze your hand.

No it isn't. They'd have no issues giving the entire deal away for free if they were so inclined.

Decent deal, but would have been better under the old CBA. Hopefully Pietrangelo signs a similar deal.

very pleased for this re-signing. i was expecting a number between five & six million - don't feel GMMG would offer sedin salary to any other player.

& regarding his back: i doubt any player or person who recovers from surgery regains 100% natural functioning. regardless, his fixed back has not impeded his performance; he was one point shy off 50 points last season.

Can't see it happening when a lot of his peers are getting amazing deals or holding out but it would be great for you guys

that's a really good deal. He could have gotten 6.5m per as a UFA.

Wow, this is at least $0.5M per year less than I thought he would sign for. Awesome.

Any contract +10 years contract that ends when the player is over 40 is bad. Cap wise, it's good though.
