This is what I was hoping when I heard the signing. Sourays name popped in my head

Nope, neither one... Cole will remain in St. Louis.

Waiting patiently for kimzey to post some kind of verification of his claim that Ken Hitchcock does not like Ian Cole.

Small risk, we will see the reward. A little insurance is all this is, people that have him playing with Petro are crazy. He'll be a 7th for awhile and when we have an injury he might get some minutes on the third pairing if he's playing decent in practice. This is not an answer for the Blues needed a partner for Petro, just a extra vet for depth.

you're all f'ing crazy, and Blues' fans are going to be clawing out their own eyes by game 10. the only chip on Redden's shoulder is the blow that failed to reach his nostril.

People just WANT a story like this to turn out a particular way. I bet even Gomez will find a fair deal of support around here if a team picks him up.

So Wade Redden made 6 million bucks this year, what lockout?

This is a good signing by the Blues in my opinion.

Do you think Hitch is going to badmouth one of his players to the media. If you want to know how much Hitch likes Cole, watch how many minutes he gives him. Cole has hadf every chance to land a rolw with thius club, but he keeps getting overlooked (Huskins, Russell, Redden). The Blues are always going to hype their own prospects. At some point, fans are going to have to realize that Cole will probably be nothing more than a bottom pairing d-man. He's getting a little long in the tooth for a prospect in today's game.

Was my favourite player for years, I hope he can find his game again. I know he won't be a top pair guy but I would love to see the guy stick for a few more years.

Not much risk in this signing for STL.

If you saw some of the turrnovers he was responsible for with the Rangers, you might change your tune

Good luck Wade, but if the Rangers end up in the Stanley Cup Finals and they play the Blues...If Redden does a # on us, I think I can speak on behalf of all Ranger fans. I'll be furious.

Good for Redden.

And Armstrong usually knows what he's doing, unlike some other (ex-) GMs.

He's playing with Petro Saturday, if you think Redden is going to take Cole out of the Blues lineup I think your mistaken. Every team is trying to load up on depth, anticipating more injuries than usual with this condensed schedule.

1 yr 800,000 for the year. Not sure if its "offical" but media's contracts have been potentially printed.Talk about HUGE pay cut.

Aren't you forgetting something?

Hint: $5M this year + $3.333M next year from the Rangers.

That $800K is allowance money for the kids...

I like St. Louis so I hope he does well there.

Don't see it as a bad signing at all, just surprised he ended up there.

People that are slamming this move don't realize how important depth is going to be this season. Of coarse the Blues didn't sign him to be a top 4 guy. He's a bottom pairing and depth player.

Cole goes back to Peoria.

The 2nd and 3rd pairings have tremendous chemistry together, and Pietrangelo can cover up for any mistakes Redden makes.
This will be the pairings.

People don't understand that you shouldn't mess with chemistry and keep defenseman on the side they are most comfortable with.

Redden/Cole will take half of the games each on the top pairing.

I wish him nothing but the best, but at best he is a 2nd Pair Defenseman in the AHL.

If I knew how I would post the scene from Money Pit where Tom Hanks is laughing hysterically into the hole in the floor.

So you've got nothing, either, except a hard-on for Ian Cole.

Got it.

Yeh, have heard all the criticisms.

By low risk I meant that if he is that bad, don't play him. 800k in cap room for one season is really nothing to the Blues. I really hope he can come back and be an effective 5/6 d man for the blues

It's like Cole became Jackman overnight. I don't get it either.

Good signing. Really no risk at all unless Hitchcock has a hard on for him.

I do remember it though; it was in the interview where he was discussing placing Russell on the top pairing next to Pie. He said that he didn't think "the other options"(Cole, Woywitka, Chorney) were capable of going up against top players night in and night out which is why Russell was getting the first chance on that pairing.

Believe whatever you want to believe about Hitch's opinion of Cole, but his actions have not pointed to any particular like for the kid. He's sent him back to the minors multiple times, doesn't give him minutes when he is up and has gone out of his way several times to find a more proven option(Cola, Huskins, White, Redden). If Hitch really liked the kid; he'd just give him his shot and run with it. That isn't happening.

Or it could be the other option in this scenario: Wade Redden is a depth signing due to the condensed schedule, just as Colin White would've been had he made the team.

Cola and Huskins were last year, obviously much before Cole was expected to have a locked-in spot on the roster.
