Maybe they send one of the defenseman down, maybe a trade? Who knows? I'm not sure what they have planned...but I can't see Ebbett holding down the position too long.

And I wouldn't put much stock in Kuzma's crowing...I think Ebbett bought him off as a PR guy.

I did see this, not sure if it was mentioned. But i hope its not centering the 4th or anything like that.

Counted. Canucks are at 23 without counting Booth or Kesler. They are already on IR.

If Mike Gillis for realz plans for him to be their shortly, then I think a trade has to be coming.

Ben Kuzma is waaaay too comfortable with Ebbett as the 2nd line center.

I would argue you guys are way too uncomfortable with it.

I prefer Schroeder but both are bandaids until Kesler gets back.

David Booth is injured and kills bears
Mason Raymond is horrible (at least he was prior to yesterday's scrimmage)
Ballard makes too much for a 3rd pairing D-man!

ZERO games played.

Must be the Canucks board.
lol no doubt! Hockey is back

I think we all realize that, we simply felt schroeder is the better player and has a higher upside, and deserves a chance, and this was the perfect opportunity to give him that chance.

I think our points with kuzma is he seems to value ebbett way to much.

With a shortened season that bandaid becomes much more. I really have no idea when kesler will be back. We maybe looking at having him for only 15 games regular season.

I do wish kesler was coming back soon, and it would make this easier, but I have no idea when hes coming back.

Barker on the other hand makes absolutely no sense to me, especially with a much better NHL player in Vandermeer on the roster making him largely redundant.
When did he prove any of this?

I agree he's a good fighter who adds some toughness.

But in terms of playing ability, he's pretty awful. Disagree that he's decent defensively and his skills are marginal as can be even at the AHL level - 2 goals in 53 games during his last season there.

On top of that, he hasn't played a meaningful game in over a year and should probably be in the AHL either way just to get back up to speed after a serious injury.

A couple seasons ago when we had no toughness whatsoever, sure, he was kinda worth a look. But we're already playing Kassian and Weise every night, and carrying a guy like this as a depth forward is just a waste of space.

Agreed completely on Barker. Why we're carrying 9 defenders so we can carry this lump of crap is a mystery for the ages.

If Ebbett sucks for the next ten games as a center, wouldn't having Higgins centering the second line be a possibility for a 5 or 10 games until Kesler's back? I recall him playing center with the Canadiens and he wasn't that brutal.

Raymond-Higgins-Kassian
Ebbett-Lapierre-Hansen

It's just asset management. It's not like they can't ever have the kid up here.

I hope Schroeder is back up shortly. The kid deserves a look. His offensive aptitude is higher than many of our roster players.

Its a cap/waiver issue.

Schroeder was better than Ebbett. Certainly.
But he wasn't MILES better than him, to the point where we could not afford
to have him at 2C opening night.

He'll be back up soon.

TL;DR

What's Schroeder's ETA to join the lineup?

I like Ebbett alot more than the average fan, but Schroeder was miles better than him in training camp. Whether or not that means something come regular season is another thing.

I'm a little skeptical about putting Raymond+Schroeder on the same line when games get tighter, but to start the season, I honestly think something must be up-- AV isn't THAT unreasonable.

The issue isn't Ebbett. It's why they didn't go with Schroeder on the 3rd line with Higgins and Hansen. Put Manny/Lappy on the 4th and stop playing useless players like Volpatti.

I disagree that Schroeder should see the toughest defensive minutes. In fact I'd say that's a terrible idea.

Ok, so what did Ebbett do that I missed? Schroeder ACTUALLY GOT RAYMOND SCORING. I love Ebbett on this team, but I thought Schroeder, from all that I had seen, had that spot wrapped up with a bow with his camp.

Ah well, the best laid plans of mice...

So Sedin-Sedin-Burrows, Raymond-Ebbett-Kassian, Higgins-Lapierre-Hansen, Volpatti-Malhotra-Weise?

We could do a lot worse with two 4+ million dollar forwards on the LTIR.

AV basically said its a numbers game. Didn't want to waive one of our guys, expect him to be back up on Wednesday when they think they can get one of our dmen through.

Do we REALLY need 9 d-men?

And if so, are there really no options out there on waivers that are better than Cam ****ing Barker? Colour me unconvinced... I'd really like to know who the pro scout was that recommended him for an invite... . But beyond that, what might be even more worrying is: does MG not use advanced stats as part of his player evaluation anymore?

Weise gets like 2 goals a game typically.

the same AV who had byron ritchie as our powerplay quarterback for an entire season?
the same AV who is in love with Aaron Rome?
The same AV who benches Shirokov/Grabner for the rest of the game for no reason?
