This is an interesting situation under the new CBA. My understanding is that with the new CBA teams have one week prior to players becoming UFA's (is it still July 1st?) in order to discuss signing them. In the past you had to trade for the right to do this, which is risky. On the other hand, teams could and most likely will lose their pending UFA players for nothing.

Is this correct?

Right?

I ran into Perry at a bar in newport, (last place anyone would recognize a hockey player) said hello to him and he had a look on his face like I ruined his night lol

Not really. Lots of holes in our lineup to fill. Adding a high scoring right winger certainly isn't one of them.

Watch all the coverage of him in vegas after winning the Hart. He just looked like a fish out of water.

The only time Perry looks comfortable is on the ice. I really wouldnt take his answers with the media as anything telling. I really dont see him going to a Canadian team.

The last place I'd expect Perry to sign is Toronto. Nonis is the one reason but that's not good enough. He doesn't like talking to the media and Toronto is the biggest hockey town media-wise

So I would chill if I were you Leaf fans

He's a pretty socially awkward cat yet on the ice he is a killer. i just can't see him wanting to be in a city where everyone would bother him if he was out at the mall or something

After what went down with Parise and Suter and the circus that created, I'm almost fine if no big name guys leave their franchises for a while.

Let Getzlaf stay in Anaheim. It sounds like he's happy there he's just concerned about competitiveness and salary. I think Anaheim will be playoff caliber in the near future and they'll pay him.

Thought for sure he and Perry were going to head straight to Toronto.

I still think the last place either of them head is Toronto, at least as long as Carlyle is there.

Yeah, if I learned one thing as a Devils fan last summer, it's to put no merit into what a player says to the media during the season.

Do find it interesting that after the Parise event, the way in which people approach guys staying or going has absolutely toned down. The 100% chest pounding crowd even though I expect Getzlaf to remain a Duck isn't around in the same force.

I expect both Howard and Filppula to re-up in Detroit. But after watching Parise I wouldn't approach it with the same way many Devils fans choose to last year. It was an eye-opener and humbling to watch a fan-base I respect by in large go through that event.

Especially since it would be filed in California that day Pretty sure if I remember right that is one of the worst states to get divorced in as the bread winner.

About Perry coming to a Canadian team; The arguement that he would be hounded are not true of Vancouver. I doubt he'd be noticed. Millionaires do not draw attention in Vancouver.

What teams can afford Perry and Getzlaf? Vancouver will have no trouble at all if they excersize the buyout options teams now have. Another possablity is that the Sedins retire to Sweden. Either way, Getzlaf and Perry become the new top line and Vancouver continues to compete at an elite level.

Carlyle played him 25 minutes a game and in every situation, there is no chance Perry has a problem with Carlyle.

The Sedin's retiring to Sweden would be stunning given that they won't turn 33 until next September. That would be beyond shocking. There is no realistic way they could manage both guys, even with the buyouts. They need those buyouts or to clear lots of salary to make this even a remote possability. I just don't see it at all, especially because if they are leaving the Ducks it will be for pretty massive salaries. Not the buy into the team stuff they have gotten most of the Vancouver guys to do including the Sedins.

Besides, the Kings couldn't even afford to get Getzlaf in under the cap without getting rid of 2 or 3 players.

I wouldn't bet on Getzlaf going to LA or SJ
I agree with you, SJ is too far away for his wife if she wants to stay in Anaheim (assuming that is where Getzlaf's house is, I have no idea).

That being said LA is close enough that he could move 20-30 minutes one direction and immediately be close to LA. He is a millionaire so it's not that strange an idea.

I feel like your post is sort of outrageous: "No star players has moved from LA to Anaheim so it will not happen in the future ". Statisticians, accountants, and economics graduates cringe at these kind of things.

LA has a huge potential market and just won a cup. I will not be surprised by anything they do or do not do in the near future.

Getzlaf says Anaheim is first option: "well what else is he going to say? he's still going to leave"

Getzlaf stays in Anaheim: "Well he said it anyway, was never going to happen"

So who are Suter and Heatley in this saga?

The thought of Vancouver pursuing these 2 is absolutely ubsurd. They'll have to clear Luongo just to get under the $64m cap next year. Even if you clear Ballard & Booth, you're looking at icing a lineup that contains probably 6 or 7 players at or near league minimum. That's just not realistic.
