Same thing with the D. If Gulutzan rolls 3 pairs and each pairing gets equal ES minutes, no problem. If Larsen only gets 12 minutes a night though, I'm going to be really mad.
I'm not worried about Larsen. Gully was already playing 17 minutes a game down the stretch last season. We know he trusts the guy. The hump I'm worried about is does he still force feed Robidas on the first PP unit. That looks like that won't change.
well this is going to be some battle on opening night. Even without Benn I see the Stars walking away with the points if they can a) stay disciplined and b) Kari has a strong game the first night back. This is likely 2 points they'll need looking ahead to the schedule the first 15 games.
Free agency..doesn't seem to be many guys worth signing in July.
I don't want to derail the GDT, but I do think Dallas will be one of the few teams in a position to pay Getzlaf and Perry fair contracts and keep the duo together since the cap is going down.
Now ... Anaheim can as well, and I think there's a damn good chance they remain Ducks, but until that happens there's at least that small possibility.
Crosby's contract averages $10.8 million in his first 8 years.
Parise's contract averages $10 million in his first 8 years.
Brad Richard's contract averages $9.5 million in his first 6 years (Last 3 years only pay $3 million total).
Without the ability to artificially lower cap hits, I think you will see guys get paid slightly less than they would have.
The thing Dallas will have to decide is if they feel comfortable committing a huge portion of their cap to two players. Getzlaf's numbers are trending the wrong direction, and he seems like he could be the classic example of having already peaked. Perry on the other hand has been fairly consistent above 30 goals. That said, do you want to commit the money to him or role the dice on a guy like Brett Ritchie already in the system?
It is definitely interesting to thing about them in the lineup, but there are quite a few concerns. Unfortunately, these are pretty much the two best prices in free agency. Everyone else is a step below IMO. If you want to make a big move in free agency, this is it. Edler signing last night was a real bummer.
