Edler - Garrison XD Karlsson and Edler would be a interesting pairing though.

Great Deal!

Honestly with this signing I hope it resolves the Subban issue in Montreal soon.

Oiler fan here. Amazing value for Edler, without a doubt.

Yet another excellent signing of an important player by Gillis. Full marks.

Fantastic deal. Great job by Gillis. Edler obviously loves that town/team and took a good discount to stay there. Nice to see.

What?
Who said that, and can you post the supporting link please? Thanks.

In light of the news that Edler has (seemingly) stated he would never be the same player, 6yrs/$30mill sounds like quite the overpayment...

Otherwise this would seem to be a great signing by the 'Nucks.

That contract is a steal. Great job by the Nucks. He must have really wanted to stay in Van City because he could easily get 6.5 on the open market for 7 years.

Here's a story in the Vancouver Sun from Dec about Edler's injury at the time.

That's a great value signing for Vancouver as long as Edler stays healthy. He's a legit #1 D. I thought that he would get upwards of $5.5-6 mil/yr so the Canucks got a great deal especially when you consider some of the inflated deals out there for mediocre defensemen who are a lot worse than Edler.

Edler still has to be more consistent for him to be a #1 D-man. That being said, he is still young and improving. The potential is definitely there and I can really see him transform into the monster he can be in a few years..

6 years at 5 million per, is a very good signing by MG. No doubt in my mind he could have got 6 as a UFA.

Yeah and I think having the back end all figured out will help us get some good offensive players. The core of D and G we have is incredible, people can worry about our cap all they want but the big pieces are in place and the holes won't be difficult to fill at all.

Very nice deal for both sides. Good for Vancouver to get him locked up.

Overall these deals should be applauded. The more deals like this, the more in line other deals are when comparing.

"Any injury you have that's coming back, you get a little extra cautious," Edler said. "But we've got great doctors here and we've been talking a lot. Obviously, it's been very frustrating. But you've got to trust the doctors that it's going to heal, probably not to 100 per cent. But I wasn't 100 per cent last year, either, and I played all 82 games."

Could you imagine the backlash if the Flames signed him for this much.

Not even remotely, and my imagination has a tendency to run rampant in vivid detail.
