That's a great value signing for Vancouver as long as Edler stays healthy. He's a legit #1 D. I thought that he would get upwards of $5.5-6 mil/yr so the Canucks got a great deal especially when you consider some of the inflated deals out there for mediocre defensemen who are a lot worse than Edler.
Edler still has to be more consistent for him to be a #1 D-man. That being said, he is still young and improving. The potential is definitely there and I can really see him transform into the monster he can be in a few years..
6 years at 5 million per, is a very good signing by MG. No doubt in my mind he could have got 6 as a UFA.
Tanev isn't too shabby either. I think he only gets better and better as he gets more experience. Corrado up and coming too. Can definitely handle our defense and goalie situations for the next 4-5 years, just need to really focus on getting some higher end players on forward.
Yeah and I think having the back end all figured out will help us get some good offensive players. The core of D and G we have is incredible, people can worry about our cap all they want but the big pieces are in place and the holes won't be difficult to fill at all.
"Any injury you have that's coming back, you get a little extra cautious," Edler said. "But we've got great doctors here and we've been talking a lot. Obviously, it's been very frustrating. But you've got to trust the doctors that it's going to heal, probably not to 100 per cent. But I wasn't 100 per cent last year, either, and I played all 82 games."
