I assume Bluesfan PM'd KH1, maybe KH1 wants to think it over...a lot of good players to choose from right now.

There is no argument that could possibly be made that has Walter Johnson not a top-2 pitcher ever.

Clemens fits in around 5 or 6 for me among pitchers. I also legitimately hate the guy so that doesn't help my bias

Your sarcasm is entertaining.

Glad we are in separate conferences by the way...we always end up running into each other

His performance at the end of his career, in the live ball era, could both justify and contradict his placement there. But, I don't want to get too indepth on this because I want one of my guys ahead of him.

That said, I've had him 2 before. Outside of my #1, my top 4 is incredibly tight knit so it wouldn't be a hard opinion to sway.

Ha ha, I really tried to mimic the actual leagues when possible in terms of American/National

He wasnt getting past me. It was between Williams and Cobb for me depending on who KH1 took.

Well I could name 10 pitchers better than him. I obviously won't yet though.

I also dislike him......

Cleveland Indians select Honus Wagner. Would likely be at least a 3-5 time MVP had the award existed during his prime.

8 time batting champion
6 time OPS+ leader
6 time Total Bases leader
5 time RBI leader

universally considered to be the greatest shorstop of all time and one of the original 5 members of the hall of fame.

A lot of people I think rate him lower due to the steroid implications. Even without them though, he isn't a top-3 pitcher as far as I'm concerned.

Wagner and Hornsby are solid selections especially considering the elite talent (or lack thereof) at those positions in this draft.

The Pittsburgh Crawfords are thrilled to select the greatest catcher of all-time, C - Josh Gibson.

When he played for Homestead he split time between Forbes Field and Griffith Stadium (whenever the major league clubs decided they could use the extra revenue essentially), both very very tough parks on a hitter (in terms of power). The park he played in, in Cuba was 498 to left and over 500 to center. This was not Fulton County Stadium. He also played at Greenlee Field which was owner Gus Greenlee's park which he modeled after Forbes Field only he made the fence distance slightly larger because well he wanted a larger field than Forbes Field.

Because there was really no official statisician in the NEL prior to integration, after that the NEL decided it was the best way to compete in the press with the players getting signed by the white clubs, the stats will always be difficult to draw comparison from somewhat. But we do the best we can with what we are given.

Using the Major League Equivalents provided by baseballthinkfactory.org (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_Think_Factory) given his recorded NEL stats, they extrapolate to career numbers of:

.327 average
410 Homeruns
.595 Slugging %
.431 OBP%
2165 Hits
175 OPS+

In 1930 Games or 6627 At Bats

Taking into account park factors, the fact that he had the best arm behind the plate in the NEL and his plate discipline, you are looking at the greatest catcher of all-time in Pwnasaurus' opinion.

Grove and Mathewson are both ahead of Clemens for me. Grove is only guy I can see ahead of WJ.

Good picks.

Fully expected Gibson as well Pwn. Best catcher of all-time. Solid stuff.
