Nichushkin won't be on the board at 16 much less 46

Anton Slepyshev went undrafted.
Evgeny Kuznetsov went 26th overall and wasn't under contract.

Nichushkin just signed a 3 year KHL contract. My point is, you never know. Still one can dream.

Just draft lots of centres as the organization is lacking big time in the centre position.

If we are picking in top 10 then I agree... Otherwise I dont think the Oilers will pass up on him unless they feel there is a cant miss guy available... Being an Oilking we should be able to develop him just the way we want..

Barkov or Monahan are the dream, but would settle for Zadorov.

Columbus gets 3 1st round picks this year (and you know at least one of those will be really, really early).

Just imagine if LA and the Rangers play for the cup this season (a distinct possibility) and Columbus finishes last overall (again a good possibility).

Columbus could pick #1, #29, #30 and #31 in that case... and if NJ forfeits those last 3 would all move up by one. They effectively have 4 1st round picks in a deep draft year no matter which way you cut it. If they draft well (and bundle players/picks and move up) they certainly could come out of this draft stacked with talented prospects.

edit: I see now they were not drafted from the Oil Kings but traded to them. My bad.
We can only wish.

I thought all 14 teams not making the playoffs had a shot at 1st overall, it's a lot tougher for a team finishing last to get the 1st overall pick now.

If we make the playoffs we take Lazar if he is available.
This is very close to how I feel although I prefer MacKinnon to Jones. I have to say I was presently surprised with Nurse in the top prospect game and he looks like he would be a great fit for what we are lacking.

I don't think this is the case. This kid is a player, with a pro style game. I think people here are high on him because they understand why his stats are what they are.

I really hate to project out so far in the draft and would not use anything better than a third rounder for him but a kid I know who played with my son for years is eligible and projected to go around 75th.

Big center who used to scored a lot. He will be playing at Yale next season. 6' 4" 225lbs. USNDT

I'd love to get Jacob De La Rose with one of our second rounders, would fit nicely into this org, good size, some physicality, good defensive manners and underrated hands, untapped offensive potential. If he could get his footspeed up ever so slightly he'll do some damage for sure.

Unless we are picking Jones or Mackinnon (shoot me if that happens), we should not be drafting for need. The team is at the point now where we need to fill areas of need through free agency and trade. Pick BPA or use it to acquire someone we need.

Stuaffer has sold me on Lazar. I also would not mind looking at Nurse if he is available. A goalie in the second would be nice as well with Jarry or Comrie.

Here's hoping he slides to the Oilers
No, the worst case scenario is he doesn't bring enough offence to make the NHL period.

I think this draft is too deep to take a guy with a number of intangibles you like in the mid first if he doesn't have enough tangibles (not necessarily Lazar, just speaking generally. Besides, who knows, still half a season to play for Lazar).

There are just too many players available that have both.

And with the draft in Jersey this year, I highly doubt they forfeit this year (making it all the more perplexing why they didn't forfeit the 29th pick last year in what was a pretty average draft class). I will laugh my ass off if they end up with 1st overall in 2014.

As for the topic at hand, everything depends on where we finish, but after watching the Top Prospects game I am a big fan of Zadorov, who seems to be in the 10-15 range and may require a trade up. I'm also big on Kerby Rychel.

That massive Russian kid from the world jrs. And Malcolm Subban from the Belleville Bulls. A likely 3/4 rounder due to his size, but a really good defenceman.

Mike McCarron(brother of our 2012 6th rounder, John) might be an interesting target with one of our second rounders.

6'5'' 230lbs winger who's pretty skilled and plays with an edge.

I like Lazar a lot, but I'm not going as far as some to say I think we should take him no matter where are on the board outside the top 5.

Even if jones, Nate, Drouin, Barkov, and Monahan go in the top 5, guys like Lindholm, Nurse, Nichuskin, Zadorov, Pulock, Shinkaruk, etc could all be guys that fall into the 10-15 range if something strange happens.

I'd love to get Nurse but I get the feeling he is going VERY high in June, even higher than some people project.

Barkov would be a perfect fit as #2C on this team. Crazy mix of size and skill.

Unfortunately he will likely be gone well before we pick.

Even if we pick #12 or so I think one of the higher ranked players will drop to us ala Grigorenko or Forsberg last year.
