TSN: 6 Games & 1 TBA
TSN2: 5 Games & 1 TBA
NBC: 1 Game so far, I imagine that will change
CBC: 2 Games (A coat hangar and a 1.03 piece from Radioshack could pull in these games, so I'm not including them.

So not counting the CBC broadcasts, that brings the blackout total to 12 Games, exactly 25% of the schedule. Keep in mind all games are available to watch within 48 hours of their initial broadcast. This might be the time to consider trying out an ip blocker/proxy which would bypass all of these problems and provide you access to Netflix US, Hulu, etc.

My concern, like other past GCL subscribers, is TSN2. Last year, the channel picked up games the day of or without any warning and the blackout policy still applied.

Anyways, with the season only 48 hours away, I thought this might be some food for thought as the expression goes.
Wow you're the man!

Thanks for all that info. Those damn TSN and TSN2 games are gonna be a killer.

Still will probably go for it. For $50 it will be worth it for the majority of games.

I just bought a subscription to hockeystreams, so thatns to MrKurri'soupkitchen for (re-)awaring me of the website. I never thought about giving it a shot before, but for $10 you get all Flyers games without blackout restrictions, plus there's KHL and the WHL. For those interested in a Phantoms game once in a while, they have the AHL, as well, and for those wanting to keep up with Laughton once he gets sent back () there's the OHL. I don't know how the quality compares to that of Gamecenter, but the preview video they have seems good enough quality for me, and I imagine NHL's going to be at least as good if not better.

Me and the Missus jettisoned the cable 2 years ago so GCL at $49.99 is a no brainer. Last year, anytime TSN2 reared it's ugly head and I had to watch a game at a local bar, I ended up spending $50 minimum on pints and food regardless.

This year I'll venture out into the world of VPNs (again at roughly $5 per month, it seems like another no brainer) I'm eager to hear first person accounts and impressions of various VPN services from folks here. My concern is our internet speed, on account of a myriad of factors, tops out at 5mbps, so I'm worried that a VPN will reduce the speed to a level that is below the ability to process an HD broadcast.

NHL Center ice is now for sale 49.99 Fios is doing the order only in installments 4 at 12.50 not bad

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RECENT ORDER

Dear LOUIS,

Thank you for ordering the NHL Center Ice Subscription package.

As a reminder, by ordering NHL Center Ice Subscription, you have been enrolled in Verizon's automatic renewal program, which renews you each season at that season's renewal rate.

I just checked the channels 1470-1489 and they are on. I'm a bit surprised not to see a game schedule for tomorrow yet. All's I see is a blue screen with Sports Indemand logo.

I also tried pulling up the guide, it now reads NHL Center Ice, but when I scroll to tomorrow all day I don't see NHL hockey at 3pm or 7pm or later but I'm guessing that will get loaded tomorrow for the first day.

Yes. The games are blacked out
1) in the local TV market
2) if nationally televised (US and/or Canada) it will be blacked out in that country

There's basically three scenarios
1) Not televised nationally in US - Can use an exit point outside of either team's local market (i.e. NYC, Chicago, etc)
2) Televised nationally in US but not Canada - Use a canadian exit point as long as it's not a local market for opponent
3) Televised nationally in both US and Canada - Use a non-north american exit point (i.e. Europe, South America)

Scenario 3 is what I am most concerned with, considering when you leave N.A. your speeds are going to diminish quite a bit. My hope is that it's enough to stream without dropping the connection. This is problematic since the playoffs will fall into this scenario

I'm really curious to know what the best streaming device is for GC. Heard great things about the new xbox ver, but I don't want to pay for Live!. PS3 vs Apple TV vs Roku, the PS3 wins for all around usefulness but bah I don't know!

I can only speak towards the PS3 and a Crackberry "Playbook" In terms of convenience and set-up, the PS3 is the winner hands down but in terms of picture quality, the playbook on its own and when running to the TV using an HDMI cable was the best.

My wife owns one but when RIM was really taking it on the chin a few months back and we're pretty much giving these "playbooks" away, I bought one for my Mother with the ulterior motive of guaranteeing NHL access if I go visit her in Montreal on my lonesome. Nothing like the love of a Son.

Sooo, being in CO, NBC is showing the Kings/Hawks game here instead of the Flyers game. Think it will still be blacked out on CI? Technically its not nationally televised.

Dealing with the same thing with NBC out here in L.A. In the past, this game would obviously be on Center Ice. This has got to just be a screw up. I am hoping for a game time miracle at this point, or gonna watch on NBCSports.com

It's not "blacked out", its not even listed, at least on Directv.

Games that are blacked out still show up...but when you try to change the channel to it there is a message saying its blacked out.

edit: so i called directv. Its unavailable out of the local market.

Yes, I am just discovering this too.

The center ice channels do not show up yet on the Direct Tv tv guide - but you can manually key them in and see what will be on the various channels tomorrow. The Flyers are not showing, because NBC IS broadcasting the game - just not everywhere.

Without an online option, I'm stuck and can't see the game..> DESPITE the fact that I'll be buying Center Ice tomorrow...

I dont even bother calling the cable/satellite provider when this stuff happens, the idiots that answer the phone are some of the most unintelligent people I have ever met when it comes to sports packages.

I cancelled time warner cable a few years back after I was having problems with my DVR when recording center ice games. The middle school failout told me that it wasnt my DVR, it was that I couldnt record live games without the expressed written consent of league. I asked her if she was an idiot, and not getting the response I wanted, cancelled the service.
