Sutter scored one this evening in a 5-4 Blades victory..

Olsen scored a first period go-ahead goal to put the Rockets up 2-1; game in progress, second period just beginning.

Trouba also had another goal in a 6-4 win over Lake Superior State.

So far Trouba has the best NCAA freshman point progression of our D!

Hey, is Carl Klingberg expected to make the big league roster?

If no, is he expected to crack it before 2014/15?

No, not this year.

He hasn't taken as big of a step forward as many had hoped yet this year.

Apparently he battles consistency issues and doesn't bring it every single night. Which is something his game requires as he needs to be a guy fighting in the corner or crashing the crease.

Yup... he's staying ahead of Lukas Sutter in goals and points...

I hope I turn out to be wrong, but I sometimes think that Lukas Sutter might break some sort of record for the earliest we can declare a "bust" for a 2nd round pick.

Seriously... 13 points in 44 WHL games as a 19 year old, in his third full WHL season??

That depends on your expectations. No Sutter has ever been a major scoring machine at the NHL level. They are known for their grit, size, play in the corner, etc. which this Sutter has. He's one of those "guy you want in the trenches next to you" types- always has your back, etc.

His scoring has dropped off yes, but its not his scoring that will get or keep him in the NHL IMO.

Brian and brent Sutter both had great NHL careers with great numbers. But Lukas isn't like them. Looks to me like he peaked last year, and got drafted high because of it. I dont wanna call him a bust...but I'm 99 percent sure he's a bust.

I completely understand the "Sutter" concept, and like to have some grit on the team. But 13 points in 44 games, as a 19 year old suggests to me that he just doesn't have the skating and skill level to make it in the NHL.

Here is how the other Sutters performed in their 18 or 19 year old season in Junior.

Brandon (19 years) - 59 gp, 26g 23a
Brent (19 years) - 34 gp, 46g 34a
Brett (19 years) - 67 gp, 28g 29a
Darryl (19 years) - 68 gp, 33g 48a
Duane (19 years) - 21 gp, 18g 16a
Rich (19 years) - 64 gp, 37g 30a
Ron (18 years, last Junior year) - 58 gp, 35g 48a

They were gritty, but they were all productive.

Lukas did better last year, but none of the previous Sutters ever had a full WHL season that was nearly as unproductive as Lukas' current season.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think that Chevy whiffed on this one.

I agree... Even below average grit guys like Thorburn and others still have decent junior and AHL scoring. It shows that they have enough skills (skating, positioning, IQ, etc) to not be a defensive liability once they get to the NHL.

Well, even if Sutter busts, at best he was projected to be a 3rd line C, and most likely a 4th line energy, gritty pest. This year is a complete write-off for him. If he can play a role and somehow make the IceCaps next year, he might be of some value.

Otherwise, limit your loss and move on.

I think there is something behind the scenes going on. Maybe he *gasp* doesn't want to play hockey? Imagine being a Sutter and trying to tell your family that?

By the looks of it the entire team doesn't want to play hockey.

Everyone's points are way down from where they once were on that team.

I'd blame coaching.

It appears that Lowry's amazing point streak ended tonight; was bound to happen sooner or later and the Broncos did at least win the game 2-1.

Lukas Sutter with another goal tonight. Maybe back off the bust chatter until at least a few years after his draft?

He was just drafted a few months ago.

Hmmm... Semi-half assed prospect update:

Negatives:
Brassard's pickup in goal scoring after being put on a line with Graovac hasn't been long lasting (1 game)...
Yuen didn't play today and I'm unsure of why... I'm not a huge fan of +/- but Yuen has been a -8 in the last 2 months

Positives:
Kosmachuk is on a 4 game point streak (3G 3A)
Lowry just finished his second amazing point streak of the season (20G and 16A in 22 G)
Sutter has 4 goals (and no assists) in 7 games
Olsen has 5 goals and 4 assists this month in 9 games

In 7 games he's doubled his goal totals

Will be nice to get these guys to the rock for a couple of years of seasoning, then we'll see what we have. Jury is still out on Telegin. It takes some adjustment from Jr to the AHL and then AHL to NHL.

So, if these young players can grow their game in the A, then we can start getting excited about them contributing at some point with the big club.

Once Trouba gets here, we'll at least have a a magnificent defense. We're only a season or two away.

May be quite the difference adding Bogo and Trouba to what we're currently icing on D.

On the pre game show yesterday Tim Campbell or Ed Tait was talking about when Jacob Trouba may be here and the opinion was he would play another year at Michigan or Kitchener in the OHA.

They then played a clip of Bob Mackenzie saying that he felt the JETS would be very aggressive in pursuing Trouba to play here next year . Bobby Mac said he felt Trouba could indeed play next year and then added he felt he could play now.

Nine months ... it isn't at all out of the question imo.

The question to be asked is why are we drafting a guy whose cieling is a 3rd line C in just the second round? Why not go for a higher skilled player rather than "size and grit"? Jets drafting record has been quite one dimensional so far. I can never see Jets drafting a guy like Jakob Silfverberg, a guy that Ottawa drafted in the 2nd round a few years ago who now looks like top 6 guy. Frk who was drafted by the Wings in the second round just a few spots after the Jets is doing very well in the QMJHL. I'm not using the benefit of hindsight here to argue that the Jets should have drafted Frk, my point is that looking at the Jets drafting record, guys like Silfverberg and Frk wouldn't even be considered . I hope the Jets are a little more diverse in their drafting and consider skill players too. They got lucky this season with Trouba, otherwise passing up on Forsberg would have been remembered for a very long time.

Yeah, I love the big strong physical players as much as the next guy, but I too think they have to look outside the box and swing for the fences on a less physical and more skilled player from time to time. Perhaps they need some better European scouts to find these guys.

You mention a guy like Silfverberg and I too wish, but for whatever reason cannot see the JETS drafting these types of players.

Guys in this year's draft that may fall into this category are Marko Dano, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Arturri Lehkonen, Jacob de la Rose and Lucas Wallmark. Andre Burakowsky is another guy, but I expect he'll be a definite 1st rounder while I believe the others are more likely to slip into round 2.

I'd be all for the JETS upping the euro skill in the system and taking a couple of these with their extra 2nd or 3rd rounders.

Well, the Jets got their character + skill guy in 2011, and their top 2 defensemen in 2012. Perhaps this year they'll go for pure top-6?
