Gomez is a fantastic skater. He's very fast. He loves to pick the puck up on a regroup or on the breakout coming out of his defensive zone and he'll just swerve right through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone. He's particularly good at this on the PP. The problem comes when he enters the offensive zone because he often doesn't know what to do with the puck once he gets in there. Skating is the least of Gomez's problems.

SunGarrioch 8:49am via Web I believe the Sharks are willing to offer Scott Gomez one year at $700K. He wants to be out of the spotlight in the West. #Sharks

1 year at 700K is fantastic. No big loss if Gomez wets the bed, but paying 700K for the opportunity to see if a former 70-point man can still be a good 3rd line center in this league is a risk I'd take all day.

For 700k its a great deal. He can handle the puck and fly...hes a decent passer from what I remember. He can also be used on the PP and his best years were with N.J. with Larry Robinson as one of his coaches.

Gomez at 700k for 1 year?
IF we do get Gomez, I think that's a pretty good deal. At the very least, we might get 3 scoring lines.

i'm excited!!

Speed and puck possession is exactly what we need. How fast though? Like Marleau or Havlat (when healthy) fast?

I'm really not that familiar with this guy. Never really followed Montreal or NJ. Is he an F1 type forward? Or is his skill set such that he is going to help cut down on the dump/chip and chase type entries entirely?

Not a bad depth play at league minimum, but I think those of you getting super excited about this haven't watched Gomez play in a long time. Or you've accepted the reality that our bottom six is god awful.

exactly, it is the same with vancouver fans right now with vandameer. they are all talking about his time in edmonton of just how great he was but are all ignoring the past year where he could barely crack the line up (for whatever god knows reason)

Looks like Scott Gomez is a @SJSharkNews #NHL #letsgetiton

Probably just speculation, but maybe Hedi is on to something.

Would Bret really post something like that if it's just speculation? That seems weird.

I don't know about that, Hedi probably has some connections to the team.

Sounds good to me. At 700k it's only a win/win situation.
