Allagash White craps all over Hoegaarden, Blue Moon, and most of those other weiss/witbiers. Hitachino Nest White Ale is delicious, too. There are some delicious mildly hoppy lagers around, though. Samuel Smith Organic Lager, for instance. There are more great beers than just Belgian Strong Ales and stouts. Sometimes you need a refreshing beer to pair with food, or you need something of moderate ABV, because it's time to get into a serious session with the boys.
Good post. In such cases, I default to St. Bernardus Tripel. Light, refreshing, for summer days, tastes awesome, lower ABV. Best tripel I've ever had.
Still have yet to try them. Also, in terms of Hoegaarden, it's very available and still really good quality for the price (saw a 24 pack near here for $26). I've been drinking so many harder beers between the last time I had Hoegaarden and now, and since trying it again, Hoegaarden is a VERY easy drink, but still good. Been drinking so many IPAs.
Also, hopefully Laughton and both Schenn brothers smash them into the ground.
