Regehr has always played the left side I'm fairly sure. Leo, Rej, Sulzer, Ehrhoff, and Weber have all played on both sides and Myers has always stuck to the right.

Seems likely that at some point the ruff bingo balls will land grigorenko between vanek and pommers, I'd be interested to see a grigs-vanek connection

That's a lot of Germans. Not to mention an Austrian.

Gut gemacht, Buffalo.

I'd be shocked if he gets sent back assuming he shows signs of life at the NHL level. From seeing him play in junior, he is ready to jump.

PS Good to see you! We should discuss this and the season over a drink!!

I love Gerbe and he will play as soon as the injuries happen...

Great line up but listen up Ryan Miller... no time to get ready, you need to play like an all-star on day one! This short season might be your last chance to win a cup!

Play every game as if it was your last!

As Miller and Enroth go so go the Sabres....

Dunno if it means anything but if you click on the roster on sabres.com they have 23 players and McCormick and Brennan are the ones who are not on there.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ellis is the one sent down as the injured become eligible. He's on a bit of a pricey one-way deal this year for a 12/13th plugger. It might be McCormick, since he's got a slightly pricey deal too, but he's at least shown willingness to compete physically (even if that has diminished post-Glass) that some team could be thinking they could re-awaken in him.

I would go 7 D for game one.

Vanek-CoHo-Pommers
FES
Ott-Grigs-Leino
Ott-Hecht-Kaleta

Ehrhoff-Brennan/Sulzer
Myers-Sekera
Leopold-Regher

Miller
Enroth

Get brennan out for PP unit 2

We don't need Brennan in the lineup so badly that he warrants playing as a 7 dman.

I they want to truly see what he can do. Then dress him as one of the top 6 dmen. Give him a few games. Playing him in a specialist role is something you do with a proven PP guy. Someone you know for a fact will improve the PP. not kid that you don't know what he can do in the NHL. You'll learn very little about his defensive ability in the NHL by dressing him as a 7th dman PP specialist. At the end of the day that's what we need to find out about him.

if brennan can help them win a game as the 7th d man, then he should play. He will get other opportunities to show his other abilities. THis is the nhl not ahl, you have to win here and anything that helps to win, we should do.

Their PP units look fine to me right now, so I don't think Brennan should get into the line-up unless he's a factor at even strength (due to injuries or guys ahead of him not playing well). Pominville, Ehrhoff, Myers, Leopold, and Sekera are enough options to choose from on the PP backend out of the gate, let's see how they do.

No expectation of any kind with a young rookie this entire season. I just hope he's a sponge and soaks up the experience over this short season. Low bar set, anything more is a bonus.
Could not agree more. The season equates to a bootcamp. Games are going to come fast and furious and those ill prepared for it are going to fail epically. Getting up and making practices/meetings on time will now require even more diligence. Making flights and arriving at Arena's on time, will require even more attention to detail. Proper rest and rehab will be top priority. If Grigs can nail this "BootCamp" of a season, the rest of his career will be a breeze.

I find it oddly ironic and awesome, that the team was actually put through a real life "BootCamp". #ProactivelyPrepared #ThereIsNoTiredInHockey

Not only this:

2013 Calder
Foligno
Grigs

But quite possibly this:

2014 Calder
Armia
Girgensons

I doubt Girgensons will be in the NHL full-time next year. We forget that most prospects play two more years in juniors and at least a year in the AHL before making the jump to the big game. Girgensons jumping to the NHL after one year (at 19) would be a stretch. I think he spends 2 full ones in the AHL and part of a third. Myers and now Grigorenko are certainly not the norm.

Quite possibly. The League is under going a shift towards starting younger players. I believe the Sabres JUST got onboard with this shift. I also believe without a doubt, that their is a definitive, Frankenstein-e-in vision in place, hence Girgs playing LW all season. He was drafted as a Center! Make no mistake, Grigs was specifically targeted, for a very specific reason. They were drafted with a mindset of those two, playing "together", not just on the same team. With Grigs and Armia already in the fold, they needed (wanted) a "Marcus Foligno" type of player, to finish off this future, freak show of a line. JMO

Not to be a downer but I fully expect Armia and Girgensons to start next season in the AHL. They might be call-ups as the season goes on but each has work on their games to do and the Sabres' top 9 isn't likely to be desperate for players.

I feel the same way. I'm expecting them to be full timers during the 2014-2015 season at the earliest.

All the different talent the Sabres have had on the PP under Ruff, has it ever been "insane" or "deadly" or "dominant"?

IMO ... Grigorenko isn't going to make it [add exaggerated positive adjective of choice]. At least not this season. I would be shocked if he ends up with more than 8 PP points. If course I hope I'm wrong, I just can't get all knee jerk happy happy joy joy about our PP units .... Yet.

Good PP units? Prove it.

Yea, I know Debbie downer

There's more than Grigorenko, frankly I don't consider him much of a factor until he actually gets in on a unit. Hodgson, however, has all the tools to be great on the PP. Good passer, good IQ, good vision, really good slapper. Having someone like Pominville back there with Ehrhoff is a world different than Gragnani and his inability to shoot. Pominville is a smart passer and has a solid shot. I hope to see him stay back on the point unless someone else proves that can do a good job opposite Ehrhoff. Throw in whomever as the other winger (Leino, Grigorenko, etc) and that can be a dangerous unit. It's all about being able to take advantage of Ehrhoff and having solid players around him with Vanek anchoring the front of the net (though I'd be fine with utilizing him differently for a change to spare the guy some punishment).

Second unit is a question mark but it should be pretty decent with Ennis-Stafford, Myers, and whatever else can work. Foligno's getting the chance to prove he can be dangerous around the net on the PP but we'll see. There's very likely better options on the team like Leino and Grigorenko.
