no way the ref saw the offside that close..

he just defaulted to stopping the goal that was coming, hoping he was right..

When it's that close and you're not sure it's better to make the call and blow the whistle. It's better to be wrong and stop the game so nobody scores a goal as a result of the wrong call, than to make a wrong call that results in a goal.
