Don't ask him that. Just take his statement as an endorsement that Tucker was a good hire to be our DC.

Sounded like Phair was retained as D Line coach. The big question is if Hoke/Byrd are retained now too. I'd like to see Hoke retained to give a bit more consistency with the staff, and he did a great job with the DBs this season.

I just wanted to egg him on a bit, but that's a good point.

Didn't realize Trestman was born or spent his childhood at the CFL. That's usually what we define as 'from'.

Tucker will basically be the head coach of the offense

Bravo.

Doesnt change the fact that the Bears HC is from the CFL.

Will the offense be a 3/4 or 4/3?

Only two teams gave up more yards than the Jaguars last year, and also only 2 teams that gave up more points than the Jags last year. I'm not going to pretend I know anything on the guy, so can someone explain to me why we signed this guy?

Yes, look at how their defense was in 2011....#6. What little talent they had in 2011, they lost in 2012. Historically, Tucker has coached some good defenses, the fact was that defense was severely talent starved this year. Couple that with an offense that is also talent starved and went 80% of the year without their best player (MJD) and that spells trouble for a defense.

Seems like he's well respected by players and other coaches, knows a 4-3 system, and has a good track record (2012 not withstanding).

I like this hire. I wanted Rod, of course, but Tucker at least makes me feel that our defense won't take too bad of a hit. Also it appears (as of now) that Hoke, Byrd, and Phair are remaining on staff, so our secondary coaching staff should be consistent (2 Probowl CBs this year, with Jennings breaking out, and good year from Conte/Wright) and our D-Line coach who hopefully learned some tricks from Rod.

I was worried about a significant decline of our defense. I at least feel that with the staff assembled as it is, we shouldn't lose too much ground. I could be wrong, but I feel good about it right now.

I'm already excited to see what happens with the Bears next year. So many changes, that who knows what this team will do. I could see anything from 6-10 to 12-4. Missing playoffs up to superbowl contender. Everything will be so different.

Thanks for the response. Wasn't trying to go BWC on the guy and saying he's awful already, if it came across that way. It's just with the NFL, it's a very "what have you done lately for me" kind of league, and this past year was terrible for Jacksonville.

No worries. And for the record, I took your statement as a legitimate question, not snark.

My thoughts on some hires

Matt Cavanaugh as QB Coach = Ugh ,, Awful memories of his last go round with Bears

Skip Peete = Meh ,, Had some success with journeyman backs in Oak but has been in pass happy offenses

who cares about the QB coach? Trestman will be Cutlers coach.

I think our backup will be better prepared to play if Cutler goes down.

As for Tucker not sure on that one

Jags D was brutal this past year but it didn't have much talent on unit

just look at the last 4 years of Tuckers work. Guy is a good to great DC.

you ask why? pretty easy to say that our backup(s) now will get more attention and protection.

Exactly, and he is calling plays himself. Everyone else is just to help him out.

If you are as old as I think you are, there is 0 chance you remember a QB coach from 1997

BS, there's no way a 12 year old remembers a freaking QB coach. You are so full of it. I'm an avid Bears fan and I am 32 and have no clue who the Bears QB coach was even 4 years ago
