Bryz was the one that kept us in the game

Can't really fault him for either goal

i would have liked to see him get the 2nd one. but, no bad body language. challenged well, strong puck shooting from behind the net, good compete level. as a goalie, i would say "i shoudda had that 2nd one" .. but, if this is the Bryz we see all year, i'll take it.

repeat of NJ series last year, much of the game, he was our only player who was playing at a high level.

unacceptable.

Much of the game? Did you only watch the first period?

Regardless, I thought that was an encouraging start. I believe he only faced 25 shots as well; whether that's due to better defense or rust on the part of Pitt remains to be seen.

As a Bryz supporter:

-Wont put the first goal on him.
-Second goal is stoppable, but I would not really beat myself up over it.

He was solid today.

Bryz was good today. His competitiveness really showed early when the whole team was struggling. I think the pens had what 11 of their 25 shots in the 1st and he it could of been worse going into the 2nd. I will say that I think he should've had that 2nd goal but a quick release like that right odd the face-off can be real tough on a goalie.

What??? He had a solid 2nd and 3rd, nothing spectacular because he didn't need to be, the whole team played great in the 2nd and 3rd. Now the first is completely different. The whole team was horrible including the 2nd goal on Bryz, should have had that no excuse. That being said he is not to fault for the loss it was a 1st period team effort for the loss Bryz included. To say he kept us in the game is false, he let in 2 goals in what, the first 7/8 shots (again I am not faulting him for the 1st goal)? After the 1st the flyers shut the door an pens couldn't do anything so Bryz didn't have to be great but he did make the saves in the 2nd an 3rd that he should have.

How did he not keep us in it? It was a one goal game as soon as the second started, every save that came after that "kept us in it."

Bryz was fantastic today. Like Phoenix fantastic. I'm confident he's going to be fine. He was on par today. No complaint at all. Both Schenns also looked good today. Got a real good feeling that Luke will be the number three guy on this team by year's end. It's clear that he's getting confident in his game again and that he's settled down a bit in terms of trying to find the big hit. He played very smart today.

While I generally don't agree with Phoenix fantastic (and I bet you if you asked him, he'd tell you the same)... he looked like a solid goaltender playing the first game after a truncated training camp and a decent stretch of inactivity. The first goal was an excellent deflection that I feel comfortable saying that no goaltender in the world would have stopped. The second goal was a goal scorer's goal that would have taken a very good save to make.

The rest of the game, Bryz made stops, but sometimes looked rusty in doing so. You pay him to stop the puck and he did that well enough. to win.

He was a .923 save percentage today. Over a season, that's 7th overall last season and equal to Pekka Rinne.

Yeah. Everything I saw from Bryz was very encouraging. If we can see consistency we will be fine in net. Could he have had the second goal? Sure, maybe. The team only scored one goal though, so at best that gives us a tie.

I noticed he did pretty well at steering pucks to the corners

I loved when really early in the game, even prior to the first goal, when the puck somehow and Bryz just dove and gloved it. Just seemed really sharp from him.

Usually a home opening loss to the Pens would kill my night, but I felt pretty good today. This game was a Flyer skate blade away from being tied.

Off topic, but bob had a great game. I've adopted columbus as my second team because of him

This team easily has the Offensive power to overcome average outings by Bryz. His contract doesn't pay like he's an average goalie, but I can live with 2 goals a game no problem.

regardless of your analysis, he let up fewer goals than he averaged last year against a team that averaged 3.4 goals per game. and 1 goal isn't going to win you many hockey games, so its hard to demand perfection outta bryz. i give him a cautious B+ today

I thought Bryz played how this team needs him to play today. First goal was just "one of those goals." The second goal a hard one but none the less would have been nice to see him stop it. I expect a better year from him, but how much better is the big question. Tomorrow will hopefully be a similar game from Bryz.

Anybody blaming Bryz for today's loss is an idiot.

This coming from a guy with a BUM avatar.

Not used to seeing people so agreeable about a solid Bryz performance. I thought he looked good not great and probably could have had the second goal, but as others have pointed out, it wasn't really anything to freak out about.
