Bishop for Babchuk/Karlsson+

So Sens have 3 Goalies on the roster and need D depth. So with that would Bishop for Babchuk( with cash to cover part of salary), Karlsson(for AHL) and a late pick

Calgary gets a backup. Lehner sticks in Ottawa to backup Anderson and the Sens take a chance on a Babchuk( I believe he is on the IR right now though but not long term)

Flames have some extra bodies on D and Babchuk has not worked out.

thoughts?

yea I put that in there. Anderson and Lehner on the big club and Karlsson in the AHL

main thing is you get Babchuk to help on D and a mid round draft pick

Never been a fan of Babchuk, and we could have had Karlsson for free like 2 days ago if we'd wanted him. Can probably get a better deal from someone else. The "+" would have to be significant (a good draft pick), or it's a big "Pass" from me.

I know Babchuck has a great shot, but is he any good defensively? Sounds like the player we could use though, if he's decent in his own zone

The return is not worth giving up some of our goalie depth. As others have pointed out, Karlsson has 0 value in a trade and there's no way we want to acquire an injured defenseman.

We already have nate Lawson in the AHL. Karlsson would be his backup.

You could have had him for free if you wanted him on your NHL roster. If you want him on AHL roster you couldn't have claimed him.

The principle behind the deal is fair. An NHL dman and an AHL goalie/backup/body is exactly the type of return that Ottawa would be looking for.

Babchuk however is not the dman Ottawa would be looking at.

The Flames might be interested in Bishop, but not if we have to give anything too significant (a 2nd rounder or more in value).

We are confident that out current crop of Ramo, Brossoit, Gillies, and Ortio will be able to take over for Kipper down the road (Ramo as soon as next season).

No way would the Senators be willing to pay Henrik Karlsson ~900k to play in the AHL. Don't think there would be any interest in Babchuk either.

Makes more sense to just get a placeholder from the UFA pool if need be.

Surely if the Sens had the slightest interest in Karlsson they could have claimed him off waivers. This makes no sense.

Makes no sense for the Flames. They just told Irving he made the team as backup finally after a good camp. Most importantly, there absolutely no reason for Calgary to give up assets (any pick) to get a backup that will hardly play that much anyways behind Kipper. Would rather have irving there learning from Kipper.

Would we not have to put him on waivers then to send him down too?

Based on their nhl experience no and Irving is 2 years younger.

I'm not sure getting another d-man is beneficial for Ottawa. Already have Lundin returning fairly soon, and obviously Cowen next year. Get Wiercioch some ice time, and the difference between Benoit and Babchuk for the respective bottom pairing role is not Bishop, imo.

If talent was based on experience, Cristobal Huet would be a starter for an NHL team right now.

So you want to judge them not based on how they did but merely because one was put on waivers
