Strait was better than Streit tonight. Hamonic had a good game. I liked Boyes and Grabner. The D played pretty poorly and short of the third period our offense couldn't get anything going. This team has a lack of play makers.

Put Aucoin on JT's wing Monday. JT and MM need a complementary player on the wing, and based on his play tonight, Aucoin could do just that.

MM-JT-Aucoin
Grabs-Nielsen-Boyes
Martin-Cizikas-Okposo
Ullstrom-McDonald-Boulton

we aren't winning any games if aucoin is out there with a minute left.

i don't know what games you guys were watching but grabner was passing the puck to devils players all game. too many blind passes.

mostly the whole team was flat and look disinterested at times. i like what i saw from colin mcdonald (he should be on the 4th line not 3rd). ullstrom looked ok. aucoin was slow, small and awful. strait was ok. streit was bad. hamonic-amac were flat (still played the best d of any pair). finley was TERRIBLE, carkner was ok. martinek or hickey NEED to be in the line up instead of finley. nielsen was ok. boyes got better as the game went on. martin played with a lot of heart. boulton was completely invisible. reasoner had one good shift and was invisible for the rest.

and of course nabokov played great (except for that 2nd goal)

Isn't anyone else depressed that it's nearly 100% sure that this will be the last time all year the Coli will have such a great atmosphere?

As for Streit, I dont think theres any grey area when it comes to him and fans. Personally, im grateful for him coming, but he is one of the most offensively skilled d-men in the league. Thats just my opinion of him.
Yea, but they had Bailey last year, and we were still awful ! As far as Streit--- hard to like a D-Man that was a -27 last yr--- Too small, and terrible in own zone--- Will take a solid d-man over a d-man that might have some offensive skills- Hammer is already better than Streit--

Yea, count me in the camp that's happy that Brian Strait is getting an opportunity with you guys. I really believe he will be a solid defenseman in this league.

Honestly, I've been waiting for this game for months, much like the rest of you, but I was sadly disappointed even before the puck dropped.

Here's what baffled me:

- Why in the hell is hickey scratched
- Where's Cizikas? Marty Reasoner instead? You have to be kidding me
- Strait and Finley over Hickey? Really???
- Booing DP? WTF? The dude is finally healthy, how did these fans not feel the least sorry for him?

What a letdown and a continuation of how the organization is a joke.

Garth actually makes a great pickup on waivers, and all isles fans (for the most part) are excited to see him make his debut, and see how hungry he is to make it in the NHL...and he's scratched for Finley in a game where there wasn't 1 fight..

I don't no how much more of this crap I can take...The jokes on us

To the minors:

Aucoin. Too small, too slow, not skilled enough for offense at this level and very risky defensively and without the puck. Pp specialist? We have better options, really. He wasn't horrible today but over n48 games, I would prefer him in the AHL.

McDonald. Not NHL player. Had moments but he's simply not capable.
Reasoner: don't need him
Boulton: don't need him and he is Terrible. Could be an extra fwd for NYR games but must physical.

The Lines:
- don't like Boyes with Grabs, replace him with Ullstrom or JJ once he is back. Either Boyes or Grabs should be with Fran's, the other winger needs to have size, speed, north-south player. Even Martin would work.

- need to have a proper,NHL caliber #2 C. We don't have one, will need to put Bailey there again.

Moulson Tavares Boyes
Ullstrom Bailey Okposo
Grabner Nielsen Joensuu
Martin Cizikas Boulton

Streit Visnovsky Martinek Hamonic MacDonald Strait Hickey Carkner

The team will never beat the top teams in the east, simply too many players who are far out of their element.

Not enough speed, forechecking or sustained pressure, no forced turnovers, not enough drawn penalties and outmatched 5on5.

Bad combination with a predictable ending, as predictable as a Maury Povich episode. But in our case, it rhymes with OTTERY.

Looked at the numbers. AMac logged over 27 minutes of ice time, and was credited with 5 blocked shots. Not bad.

Probably just stating the obvious, but for Monday I'd like to see Cizikas in there and Hickey-Martinek has the bottom pairing instead of Finley-Carkner.

Here are my thoughts:

*Ullstrom looked good...nothing too great...but solid.
*I thought Grabner was really flying tonight. I don't mean that from a pure skating perspective. I mean that, as others have said, he was really into the game and trying to show that last year was not who he is.
*JT played well, but he can't do it alone. I expect that Boyes will be with him before long.
*Okposo looked lost. He did not play like he did at his best at the end of the season. He tries to play too much of a finesse game, and he needs to be a power player.
*I thought Aucoin looked fine, but he can't be more than a 4th liner. He can't be on our PP.
*I thought Carkner and Finley both looked OK, even though they both had their gaffs. But, they can NEVER play together again, and I mean not even a hand of cards. Two slow statues are not a recipe for success. They might both be OK in the line up if they are playing with more mobile players.
*I agree that Streit sucked. However, I am not ready to cut the guy as others are. It was ONE GAME.
*I thought Brian Strait had a decent game. I see him sticking.
*I hope that Hickey plays against TB. Finley should sit.
*While some may have lost it, I see why Colin McDonald played. He was hot and is in game shape. I expect that he'll get sent down. Still, I saw enough that I did not see him as THE PROBLEM. He tried hard, and that is enough of a 28YO guy who has limited NHL experience.
*Martinek will play eventually, but I completely see why he sat, even of some don't. He is old and has no future with the Islanders. The team wanted to see what they have with some of the youngsters. Once that experiment dies down, Martinek will make his appearance and most likely be a regular.

Did Carkner play bad? I was at the game and I thought he was solid.

the atmosphere was terrible until the islanders scored.

i don't blame them because most of the game was a snorefest, but they weren't even loud from the get go

I understand where you are coming from and I agree with you, but I don't see Carkner sitting. They didn't just sign him to a fairly lengthy FA contract to sit him. I see Finley sitting and Hickey starting...with Martinek waiting. I could be wrong and we'll know who is right in about 48 hours!

Carkner made a few mistakes, but overall his play was OK. I personally think that guys were magnifying his errors because they (a) are not in favor of goons ever playing and (b) he played with Finley, who probably won't be with the team at the end of the season. Still, while I saw a limited player in Finley, I did NOT see a terrible d-man. In other words, he is NOT Rechlicz as a d-man.

i agree mostly. i'd rather have mcdonald playing over boulton. at least mcdonald generated something on the forecheck. i'm not even sure boulton played. i thought the ullstrom-bailey-okposo line did pretty well last year and i would like to see it again as well. i think when this team plays with some fire, they can give any team a hard time.

okposo plays with no heart. He would be so good if he tried, hes slow also. Boyes will be on line 1 in the next few games IMO.

Yeah, better to let those two be subject to mediocre at best **it hockey and maybe ruin their careers than to stay somewhere else to become good hockey players because we were patient, amirite?
