On of two things is happening with Antoine Roussel going down. It's usually the simplest explanation, and that would be Texas only has 11 forwards. They're playing again tonight, and they need another body. However, they honestly could easily just sign a ECHL or CHL player to a PTO for 1 game. They've done it in the past.
The second reason would be opening a roster spot for Jamie Benn. As soon as he signs, I believe they'd have to have an open spot. Before this move, they didn't. Benn would doubtfully play ... I am inclined to say no chance ... but they'd need a roster spot for him.
My heart says that open spots means something positive. Unfortunately, my brain says no way.
Both sides are probably waiting through these two games to see who needs who. Stars do well, he signs our offer. We suck, we either cave or keep holding out.
So just all the more reason to hope for a couple wins this weekend.
I was just hoping for an update on Benn's contract status. Is he close to signing? Somebody dropped him in my fantasy league and I am wondering if I should snatch him up.

Do you think his agent posts here? Why are you posting this?
Alright guys, let's try to cut down on the fantasy related stuff. We're all as eager for news as you guys are. The bottom line is that negotiations remain ongoing for anywhere from a 2 to 6 year contract. It's complicated. It's only been a little over a week. It'll get done. Your fantasy team will live to fight another day, and so will the Stars.

I just thought as stars fans, you would probably know something that I don't. I haven't been following the negotiations very closely.

From the sounds of things, I guess I'm not the first person to ask. Sorry for wasting your time I guess. Good luck this year guys.
It's no problem, it's just sort of a critical mass thing. When X number of people come in here asking the same thing it starts getting annoying.
The thing is that neither side is negotiating through the media so there isn't really much to say. The Stars want to pay him as little as possible and Benn wants as much as possible.
Pretty sure Benn would be perfectly fine with a 3 year deal. It's the money that's the problem. Heika said the Stars are looking to pay him as little as 3.75 per year on a short term deal.

They're making almost 6 on long term deals. It's not the same.
Yeah its kind of the opposite of normal thinking. Often in sports people would give up some money for a long term commitment, but the current situation in hockey is that you get more money to sell a few years of UFA years. I do think the organization has put themselves in an odd position by hyping up Benn as a franchise player before he has established himself in that role.
