Don't want Ben Bishop and don't need a goalie right now anyways. We have both Hedberg and Brodeur under contract for two years. Both have NTCs and one would have to go back in any trade if it were to even work.
Contrary to popular belief, we don't need a goalie right now, definitely not a prospect. We have Hedberg and Brodeur locked up until the end of the 2013-2014, for better or worse. Combine that with the fact that we have 4 pro goalies in either the AHL or ECHL, there's no room.
Right now, Kinkaid or Wedgewood is our future. Neither is ready now, but likely they will have to be ready for spot duty in 2014-2015 with probably a signed UFA goalie to tandem with.
Zib would definitely fit a need, but it's not worth it at the expense of Larsson, at all. The value might be fair in a vacuum, but the Devils future on the blueline revolves around Larsson. They won't be giving him up for anything short of MASSIVE overpayment.
This trade does not make sense for either team. Devils need Larsson for the future to anchor their defence. Plus the Sens have a Norris Trophy winner playing on their defence among other good defencemen. No need for a trade like this.
