That was one of the best games I've seen this team play in a long time. (Yeah, I know, it's the only game I've seen them play in a long time.) Sure there were mistakes made and a few things (PK in particular) need some work but those boys really looked like a team out there. Although there were some rough spots I would still say they played a 60 minute game which the haven't done in forever.
A healthy Lydman looked terrific, Palmieri looked strong and aggressive, Souray looked good, the whole third line was spectacular, and the whole concept of rolling four solid lines looks like a real winner.
I told you guys this was a playoff team.
Oh, and it sure can't hurt the Perry/Getz negotiations to have a winning team while the talks go on. If we make some good offers and they start sniffing another we just might have them right where we want them.
Seems like league wide defense was troublesome, will probably take longer for teams to gel defensively, which could mean alot of goals for a few weeks. wouldn't overreact to anyone with a slow start either most of this guys haven't played highly competitive hockey this year, regardless it'd be nice to steal 2 in a row on the road
I also didn't like the coverage of the point men. Vancouver was allowed to tee off way too many times, directly led to all three goals. The wingers either need to get out higher faster or not be sucked in as hard when the play goes behind the net.
I like the Lydman-Beauchamin pairing so far. They're very reliable, and I trust them against the other teams best forwards (I have no fear putting them against Kopitar, Thornton, Sedins, Toews, etc.).
Also, that 3rd line could be great. They seem to have nice chemistry together already. All play a very strong defensive game, and Koivu can dish them the puck, so they should be able to put up a good amount of points.
1st line looks good. Perry was the worst one on the line today imo, but that's probably just rust. Getzlaf played phenomenal. He was physical, he shot when he had the oppurtunity, he back-checked hard, he setup his teammates. He looked like a captain out there. Palmieri was also excellent i thought. He's got great hands, is fast, and has a really nice wrist shot.
Teemu is Teemu. Nothing more needs to be said about him
Rakell had a great NHL debut. The skill is there. Now he just needs to develop physically, and I think he'll be a really good NHLer
Sbisa's weird, almost like a frantic schizophrenic. Hs first two periods were awful, but seemed to pick it up towards the end. Has the tools to be one, it's on him to put it together.
I'm not to worried im watching the game now and Sbisa and Souray just need time to play together, there were some obvious miscommunications/not knowing partner moments. it will take a few weeks for our new pairings to gel, but i am liking Beauch and Lydman! amazing what a difference a healthy Lydman can make, last year he clearly wasn't himself
Lovin Rakell he just totally plays a pro style game, wonder where this leaves Holland, he deserves to play...Beleskey I think is gonna stick this year, he always plays hard, in a bottom 6 role he's a valuable player
