This is about the max I'd like to go on Lupul. Not too much more than that I wish.

Hope its around or less than that for a few years, I'd love to keep him around.

If you enjoy getting out scored by the Leafs for the next 8 years, then sure.

If Toronto is going with youth you have to think moving Lupul at the deadline makes more sense, assuming he returns a valuable young asset.

If Kessel doesn't like it, move him too.
History? All Lupul has done here is thrive, screw his history, he is way beyond that. He has a letter on his jersey for a reason. I would love for him to re-sign anything around the 4.75-5 mil range would be suffice. Just because we're going with youth doesn't mean we have to trade every veteran on our team. IMO Lupul will sign here long term, my guess is 4-5 years. He deserves it

When I look at history I'm taking that as his injury history. Ever since coming back from almost a career ending injury he's earned a letter with this team, that means a lot. He deserves whatever contract he gets. Like I said IMO he will get something along the lines of 5 years and 4.75-5 million a year.

What I mean is don't bother with his past injuries he's obviously shown he's beyond that now. All he's done here is produce, he has a letter, he's a leader, sign him up!!!!

Toronto has to be VERY careful in the money and term they committ to Joffrey Lupul. Yes, he had a great offensive year, but his line was atrocious defensively, likely as a result.

If we're going to sign him to a multi-year deal, it has to come at a cost that would allow him to move down in the lineup.

At a cost that would allow him to move down in the lineup? As in, out of the top six? You'll never sign him to a deal like that. Then again, I'm not sure what dollar amount you're thinking, so you might have to clarify that.

Also, he was a plus player on the year. I don't think its fair to say his success came at the cost of the rest of his game. He was a top player on the team last year, and the Leafs struggled without him.

I would venture to say that signing Lupul will go a long way towards retaining Kessel. Let Lupul walk and kiss Kessel goodbye.

You think it's realistic to trade Lupes, while counting on Perry to sign with us in the offseason? These days, i don't think it's realistic to expect any big name ufa's to come here. I'm happy to keep Lupul, bird in the hand type dealio.

5 years x 5.5m is my best guess.

I have to think the Grabo contract sets some kind of bar for Lupul's contract...

Man, I thought this guy was gonna be a stop-gap in Toronto but he's played unbelievably well. Sign him up! Anything around a cap hit of 5 - 5.5 but I think he'll get a little more

Oh ok. Well, that's probably the equivalent of Grabovski's contract then. Fair enough.

5 year ext for Lupul. $5.25 average salary. Ltd no-trade. Leafs can request list of 14 teams. #TSN

Yeah. Except Grabo's a centre.

$5.25m x 5 years is too much for Lupul, and there's no reason it should've been done this quickly. The guy had one great year, the rest of the time, he's basically a 25/25 guy, and that's too big a commitment.

The Leafs should've waited out this year to see how he plays. At worst, he's going to be a UFA in a very strong class.

One of the things that the cap-circumventing deals saw was a massive increase in the salaries of the mid-level players, and with those deals now outlawed, the mid-level players are going to feel the brunt of it.
