A calder deserves a 7 year deal? LOL.

If I were Bergevin and these numbers aren't accurate, I'd be on the phone with the radio stations tomorrow letting everyone know that this is not the case.

When this gets said on the Stove it's going to stick. If it's not true then Bergevin needs to clear this up with the public ASAP. He doesn't have to comment on the specifics but he should definitely clear up that he's offering more than that.

Unless the numbers were right and if they are he needs his head examined...

Friedman made a point of saying that teams may be clamping down on 2nd contacts. Benn, O'Reilly, and PK are no longer under the old cba, which saw guys like Skinner/Myers get longer term/more money.

I think the best contract for the team and Subban would be 2yrs, 9mil.
It will allow the Habs to reevaluate him, and if Subban matures and proves to be definite #1 defenseman, he will make more money than if he signs long term now.

However if Subban really wants long term, then Bergevin should sign him but at a lower cap hit. Preferably 8yrs, 40mil (5mil cap hit)

Let's just hope MB isn't undervaluing Subban and that Subban is willing to take the bridge contract or otherwise sacrifice some long term salary in a 8yr contract.

Part of me wonders if this isn't simply Bergevin trying to tank by the backdoor.

Maybe he's smart enough to know we need a high draft pick, but he doesn't want to get blamed for it.

I just want to know what is going on from a credible source. I don't know if it's Subban being greedy or Bergevin low-balling him or Subban asking for a long-term contract and Bergevin insisting on a 2 year contract.

He is as sure a thing as the OTHER players coming of ELC's that have gotten long term deals. He's as sure a thing as Price, Max, etc.
Ultra defensive team I will give you, but that has no bearing on the powerplay, you don't play defense on the PP right? I agree again he does have a great plus minus for this poorly talented team, if he was only offered 3million a year, I agree thats pathetic, but what I'm saying is hes not worth over 4.5 for 2 years. time will tell, If Pk is being greedy or if Bergevin is being stubborn and undervaluing PK. I hope for our team Subban signs but not a 5 or 6million a year, he hasn't earned it.

To be precise, there is nothing really in the new CBA that changed things much for guys coming off ELC. I think the big difference is not the CBA itself, but the feeling among owners in general that the Cap will not be going up over the coming 2-3 years, whereas before it was always going up so long-term deals were more attractive as one could hope that the player would outgrow the contract.

I think in the end, they will sign a 3 year deal at around $4.25M per. That will make the next contract come with 1 year left before UFA status hits.

My subconscious mind wants me to sign subban long term. I had this strange dream that in the middle of the game, a guy would come down the stands to whisper something to Therrien. Then the lights would black out. Dead silent as people wonder what's going on. A gigantic screen would be revealed with hype music (like a wwe vignette) in a cryptic way, to finally anounce that subban had signed 7 years, to a loud pop. In the dream I felt like it was the best thing that could ever happen.

Thing is, I actually want subban 2-3 years max. He has many things to improve before he can actullay get the big contract. Maybe in my dream it was about the full potential subban. The 70 pts team player version.

Anyway, funny way for my brain to process an opening ceremonie, a frustratig loss, lack of emotion, subban's absence..and chicken wings.

The only one that was putrid was Gorges, and that's probably from not having played a game in like 9 months. Not sure what game you were watching? Half the forwards were skating in cement(Cole Pacioretty Gionta Moen) which led to a struggle territorially to establish offense.

The Calder is certainly something that favours a young D player during contract negotiations. And yes, a Calder winner probably gets a bigger contract than an non-Calder winner.

The Calder probably got him a better contract at the time. But he did win it. You can't look at these things in hindsight.

It's funny how memories are short around here
Does the name Theodore mean anything around here?
When he was traded away because of his contract it was lauded as addition by subtraction; Gainey had righted a wrong.
Wade Redden was regarded as a better Dman than Chara, yet look at him now.
There is nothing wrong with asking a young gun like Subban to take the bridge in order to prove themselves.

For every contract you're talking, I can give you 5 more that worked pretty well. Not because there are mistakes, that every move is a mistake.

He can do whatever he wants, my feeling is in this kind of situation, you keep a low profile, you don't go parade and seem happy about it....

more and more i see this guy as a negative in the room, no wonder Bergevin is sticking to his guns....

He should keep low profile. What normal people do. Spend time at home, rethink about how stupid he is for missing that first game. All he should think about now is what plane he's gonna take to get his ass back in montreal asap, shut up and play, then shut up again.

I don't get how he'll be able to enter the locker room head up, "hey guys wazzup", "did I miss you?".

Missing one game was one game too much.
