There's a difference between watching and analyzing a game.

Subban has a booming shot. He is an excellent skater. He doesn't get nearly enough recognition for his defensive play, which is well above average. He is a dynamic player who makes excellent first passes and can get break out of difficult situations. He is also an excellent hitter as many NHLers will attest.

Is that what you're watching?

He was one of only 15 NHL defencemen to:

Score over 30 points
Deliver over 100 hits
Block over 100 shots
Play over 24 minutes per night
Play in all situations(PP, PK, ES)
Play against the opposition's best lines in all situations

We can also point out that he improved defensively throughout the season and was one of the top players in the NHL at drawing penalties.

If you have watched Subban as often as you claim, you should already know this...unless you have no clue about what to look for in a young, developing, defenceman.

He's a great player that can have a large impact on a game. He's explosive.

Plus, I think he can get much much better. Especially in terms of his defensive game (Already has a good one, and will continue developing it in years to come).

Gotta get this guy signed. As a Leafs fan, I was happy he wasn't in the lineup tonight. As a hockey fan, I love watching him play.

Subban is actually very comparable to Phaneuf, you make it sound like it's an insult.

I think Subban is a phenomenal player, but I think there are many players who could achieve similar statistical success if playing on a team like the Habs last season.

Well, let's take our time to sign him then.

What is the supposed number that Subban wants?

Also this is a bit off topic but did anyone catch the small thing on CBC earlier when the Montreal fans were chanting "we want Subban signed" or something along those lines?

Are you sure about this? Our team is a mess last season. Nobody is going to have any kind of success playing for that team.

If anything his demands are probably a little higher tonight. Montreal's defense really didn't generate anything tonight and didn't look good getting the puck out of their end with any kind of confidence.

Combine that with the chant at the scrimmage and I would love to be PK's agent right now.

A few more losses like that and he's asking for Doughty money.

I think its quite possible the Habs win last night with Subban. Missing the big back end presence (offensively).

But I do commend Bergevin for not bending over backwards for him. Theres worse thing in a GM then having some backbone in negotiations.

Subban would gave made the difference last night. Im glad Bergevin didnt cave in though. PK needs to read Gorges comments frm friday, realize there are times you take the bridge contract (he's no Doughty) and move on.

But choking in a shortened season is fine in the situation we have. I would rather watch the tougher brand of hockey and fall short of the playoffs if it means Subban finally realizes management wont cave in to excessive demands. Take your 1-2 yr deal and work for that long term money deal

Yeah, I don't know what people are saying about Bergevin in Montreal but I think he's done a fantastic job in this situation.

You can't just back down and give Subban what he wants, not after this you can't. Subban needs to know that he'll get his big paycheque a few years from now, holding out isn't going to help his chances or the Habs.

To be fair, the PP didn't have Markov to feed him the puck last year. One of Markov's best qualities is his vision, his passes.

After the way Gorges played last night he should be giving half his contract to Subban to bridge the difference, Yikes!

So if I heard correctly on Hot Stove last night, the Habs are offering Subban a little under 3 m per season, using MDZ as a comparable? I wonder what Subban wants? And where they settle.

Subban is very comparable to Phaneuf and 2.0 is always a better version than 1.0.

Phaneuf is Toronto's number #1 D-man who makes over 6mil a year.

How can you claim that I meant it as an insult? lol

I don't think they're that comparable. Phaneuf has proven a lot more offensively. Subban IMO is already much better defensively.

I'd take Subban all day everyday.

He is getting undersold underrated and underbid by many people in this thread.

One of the best pure athletes in the league. Huge troll too love it. I hope he plays D for the Habs for 15 more years.

Sign on the dotted line PK ol buddy!

That was all unsubstantiated speculation. If they're offering under 3M that's a hilariously bad lowball.
