The Official Jaromir Jagr discussion thread

Why not make a thread to keep all Jagr related discussion in instead of spreading it out in various new threads all the time.

Quote:
Speaking of the playoff atmosphere, I don't think anyone anticipated just how pumped up this crowd would be for opening night. It seemed to be a combination of hockey finally returning after such a long hiatus and having a player like Jaromir Jagr on the ice in a Stars jersey. The fans were great, the atmosphere was great and the only hope is that the momentum with the fans continues to build as the season continues.

Back to the hockey: Jaromir Jagr is incredible. He was the best player on the ice, his puck possession skills are off the charts and it's clear that he's already building some great chemistry with Loui Eriksson. Almost as importantly, Jagr is a hockey legend that these Stars fans are openly and fully embracing. The AAC was sold out because Jagr was on the ice, I guarantee it, and getting two goals and two assists in his Stars debut couldn't have made for a better script.

Let the legend continue!

Jagr's Debut:

Jagr with an awesome season opener! All this with little time to build chemistry and without Jamie Benn, their #1 center. Jagr fans couldn't have asked for a better start to the season, let's just hope he can stay healthy!

I just said this in another post.. there is barely a mention of Jagr or Selanne's 4 point night on nhl.com. Could you imagine how they would have handled Crosby getting a 4 point night?!?! No respect to the old guys!

I wouldn't be suprised. The west coast has barely seen Jagr, so teams could really be shocked at what they see, so if he stays healthy i think he could easily be top 10 in points. He could rack up a bunch of points early in the season due to players being sloppy and not knowing how to defend him. I am sure later in the season, teams will know how to cover him though and the points will become harder to come by, but you never know what will happen.

Jagr will be given a lot of time on the power play, so if he stays healthy he could EASILY compete..

Jagr really impresses me, he's still so good at an age where most players are already retired.

Looks like losing that 20 pounds over the summer is really helping him. That no look pass on the Eriksson goal was incredible.

I don't think so.. he has never scored in your arena and holds the record for most goals in different arenas, so he really needs one there!

I think it's all misinformation. i recently saw in an interview that he weights 235ish and wants to get back to 240 or 250, the weight he was when he scored 123 for the Rangers in 2006

edit: added a video of jagr's debut up top

He could definitely make a MVP run in the shortened season when Benn signs and Roy gets back.

Jagr vs. Selanne for the Art Ross trophy. Let's party like it's 1999.

His groin needs to hold up.

His groin was an issue for him last year and it wrecked the flyers PP line that he was on. He was slower than dirt and to make up for it, he tried to do too much with the puck and then lost it.

Jagr?

Lemme tell you something about Jagr.

Back in the 90s, the freaky Penguins with Mario, Jagr, Stevens, and all those other jerks rolled my beloved Bruins in a couple Conference Finals. They won handily, too. They were far better, and it hurt.

BUT...I was a Jagr fan from the first game I saw him play, and Im still a Jaromir fan now. I wanted the Bs to nab him when he was ready to come back to the NHL.

It looks like my prediction that he would only score 20-25 points this year is going to be a bust...

Great start, old man.

You know what i just realized? Back when Jagr left for the KHL, he said he would only play for the Rangers in the NHL or go to the KHL team that he promised to play for.

The Rangers decided to sign horrible horrible deals with Gomez, Redden and Drury. Do you remember those terrible deals? Well they prevented Jagr from signing a big deal. Look at where those three players are now...

Gomez traded and bought out of his horrible contract.
Drury was bought out of the last year of his horrible contract.
Redden was bought out..

Imagine if the Rangers would have believed in Jagr and signed him to a great deal instead of those players? What were the Rangers thinking?!? I mean Jagr breaks a record for the franchise in his first year, and slows down the following years, but he was obviously injured. Anyways those signings have always bothered me and because of those i really think we got robbed at seeing Jagr at #2 all time in points since he promised the KHL team he would play for them if he didn't sign with the Rangers.

He really doesn't need to score at the X that would be a little selfish of the guy don't you think?

I'm not shocked. Jagr is outstanding.

The reason why I don't mind if the Flyers let him go is because he slowed down a TON at the end of the season. Not much use for a contender if their player can't keep up with the team in the playoffs.
