That's okay... but I would have waited to see how Lupul does this season before extending him.
I predicted he'd settle in at the 5 mark. So I guess 5.25 isn't too bad.

Possibly a tad overpaid, but much better then losing him for nothing.

Solid deal. A 1M raise in cap hit is really not that bad for Lupul.

Excited to see him in the long-term.

As much as I don't like the dollar value, I think it's important to keep a guy like Lupul on the team for a couple years.

He brings a lot to the team. Leadership qualities and a style of play that is successful.

Good signing.

If you guys think this is overpaid, how will you feel by the summer when Kessel gets 8 years for 8 million per?

This is a good deal. Lupul got 4.25 million when he wasn't playing nearly as well in a smaller cap world.

People on this board will never be happy.

I have no problem with the deal, the MNTC is a good one, not immovable if Leafs want to move him.

Good deal for both sides. I'm happy it's below 6M. He's a leader IMO, great player and hopefully he and Kessel shake the rust off and start off with a bang.

I like this deal and I am glad we got him signed. Let's hope he continues to excel his game to greater levels. If he doesn't live up as high as we hope we can see, atleast producing respectable numbers while giving leadership to our boys will be good.

Fair. Don't know what the rush was. Maybe his agent said he would be asking for more later.

Has good chemistry with Kessel. Has been a solid addition. Good solid piece going forward.

So far kessel just needs to bring his scoring game aside from that he seemed fine yesterday

Very good deal. If he can keep a 70+ point pace, its a steal. But, if he only manages a 60 pt pace, it is still market value.

Although it's a bit over what he should be paid. I think the benchmark was Grabo

There's no way Grabo should be getting 5.75. Lupul is more vocal, more influential to Kessel and more physical. He's the only power forward we have. For better or for worse.

Grabo's contract is going to haunt us for years to come. Kessel will burn us with his next contract demands

Leafs can request a list up to 14 teams in the modified NTC, so he is not immovable. 5.25M is reasonable though a bit on the high end side, in comparison Horton makes only 4M. So Nonis must have an idea on the market, hope he is right here. But given Grabo is at 5.5M, really Lupul is not going to take anything less than 5M to stay, the Grabo deal was the precedent setter last year.

Again Grabo deal is the albatross here unless he can up his game.

Agreed, he doesn't even take up 8.2% of the cap space.

When he signed his current contract that he is on he took up 7.5% of the cap space. He is much better now than then but only taking up a little bit more cap. Fair deal.

I believed we were looking at a 1-2 year deal in the 6m range or a 4+ year deal closer to 5m. 5.25m is extremely fair in my opinion.

Price keeps going up... if Lupul is ppg 15 games in again... you're looking at 6mil etc.

Anybody know... can we use the amnesty on Lupul 2 years from now? If say he falls off a cliff?

I am so happy he was able to put the Randy Carlyle past troubles behind him!

Hopefully Perry and Getzlaf follow suit

oh come on. He has one good year and gets a raise for FIVE years. He hasn't played over 70 games in 4 years. Ridiculous that he re-signs him now.
