Slightly higher than I was hoping for Lupul but I'm pretty content with the signing, glad to have Lupul stick around with the Leafs.

cashed in from a career year.. good for him. He likely won't have as good a year moving forward (is he really a point a game player??) and won't have the same leverage so he signed early and got security and a big payday.

no home-team discount here though. Unless you believe that Lupul really is a PPG player and won't have his history of inconsistent play and injury issues continue.

Big thing here though is that this signing may have been necessary to get Kessel extended moving forward.

Good deal for the Leafs. We can't afford to lose talent to the free agent market I'd rather lock him up and if it doesn't work out, then send him to the AHL. We can afford to take the risk - if he somehow sucks, the Leafs have no problem sending him to the AHL like Connolly.

If talent leaves this team, it is only leaving via trade. Period. That is how teams improve. Losing talent to UFA is unacceptable.

I think that it is a good signing. He will be a big part of Nonis trying to keep Kessel in Toronto.

Definite risk here, but overall it's not a bad deal if he can produce the way he has since he was traded to the Leafs.

Solid re-signing.

Pricey, but he is a leader of this team, contributes well, and should be able to make his contract worth it.

Definate risk here, but there was also the risk of losing him for nothing.

Not a particularly good signing. What happens now if Kessel leaves?

seems a little high, but it's fair. Solid deal for the Leafs.

Just a matter of Lupul playing at the level he's capable, despite injuries slowing him down. He deserves this raise, just hope he can stay off the IR list.

It's a slight overpayment, but with the season Lupul had, Leafs had no choice.

11-12: 2.50 points per 60 minutes
10-11: 1.60 points per 60 minutes
09-10: 2.48 points per 60 minutes
08-09: 2.03 points per 60 minutes
07-08: 1.94 points per 60 minutes

11-12 might go down as a career year, but I think he should atleast be a 60+ point winger with top line minutes alongside Phil the Thrill.

Yep, I don't expect him to be PPG. I expect 60-65 points and playing like a boss on the PP with Kessel.

Traded for something valuable.

Has he been ppg for 1.5 years now, and hopefully the next domino will be Kessel.

Good timing on this extension, hopefully we get Kessel extended this summer. The Leafs have $17M to spend this July, and only have to re-sign a few guys.

What's underrated about Lupul is his play along the boards. I think him and Bozak do a good job with Kessel because those 2 are solid along the boards and can create some space for Kessel.

Bad deal for the Leafs.

No reason to rush this deal with a huge UFA class coming and Lupul coming off a career-year. The middle-of-the-lineup players (what you have to sign Lupul as) are going to take a hit in the new CBA, and guys of his calibre (in an average season) should be easier to procure than $5.25m.

You should know better than this. He was not injury prone.. he developed an infection from an injury.

He was close to not playing at all.

He's been nothing but great for the Leafs and it's not like he was a fourth liner before, he's shown he can put up points when he's not injured..

He put up like 50 points with the Flyers not too long ago.
