Good signing. I thought that he would wait and test free agency but I was wrong.

Lupul has re-established himself in TO.

Lupul's injury prone. That shouldn't be ignored when signing a contract.

Risky, but hopefully it works out. Good player and teammate. Hope he can stay healthy.

Except Zajac hasn't had the opportunity to demonstrate that he can still play at that level post major injury. Lupul had a career year post injury.

Lets see a middling second liner (50 points per) for nearly as much as a top tender. Lol

Lupul dreams hes in the league after this contract ends.

It's either a homer call or a Homer Simpson call. Either way, it's rediculous.

Lol. This deal is great compared to Zajac.

At least Lupul was signed on the back of career highs.

Zajac hasn't been so great the last 2 years and was given 8 years at 5.75M. That's terrible.

5 years is a lot better than 8. Zajac had all the leverage in the world, and I'm not sure Lou Lam would like to lose another player after Parise bolted.

They should've waited at least a month to see if he kept it up. It's not like he would've gotten much more as an FA.

Glad you watched the playoffs. Not to mention Zajac is light years ahead of Lupul Defensively.

Don't think anyone can deny it's an overpay, especially at that term but it's not a huge overpay. 250k to 500k

Lupul has a ways to go, in terms of consistency, before reaching Pominville status. And I'm a leafs fan. Granted, they are similar players. Poms right now easily.

Overall, it's market value. Not bad, not great.

Send a message via AIM to Nazem Gretzky
Can the Leafs not just waive/bury him if he underperforms? If so, who cares if he is slightly overpaid? (Which i dont think he is)

No. Sending a player to the minors only knocks 900,000 off their cap hit.

Seems like he's too expensive for every GM tastes. You don't see him being moved anywhere do you?

There is a MASSIVE difference between being signed until age 34 and and 43. Your argument is just silly,

Exactly. He's also had exactly one dominant season. I don't feel very good about this deal.

There is also a massive difference between a forward and a goalie in career length. There is also a massive difference between a multi-time all-star, Vezina Candidate, Jennings winner, Hart nominee with on eof the best save percentages of all time. And an offensive winger who is injury prone and just came off career highs.

If you want to see a career path similar to Lupuls, see Sergei Samsonov. You want one similar to Luongo, see Brodeur.

So people think on the UFA market Lupul would not have gotten as good of a deal?

Term stinks but cap hit is ok. Could be a steal if Kessel stays, could be a bust if Lupul gets hurt for extended periods. But then again LTI don't count against the cap.

Not a good deal but it could be worse.
