What would your team be willing to give up for Pavel Datsyuk

Just mulling the idea around since I think it has finally become evident we dont have much of a shot at winning anything again with the current core. Detroit would be interested in young players who could help going forward.

Datsyuk has one more year on his contract after this at 6.7.

I doubt the Wings are actually shopping him, but just hypothetically what would you give up.

edit: just gonna post my response here to likely replies just so this thread isn't saturated with them.

It's not one game. This team has been a pseudo contender for two years now, and its only going to get worse before it gets better. The Wing's core is aging and I don't think they will be able to win anything significant with it. I'd rather not be stuck in Calgary territory of trying to still convince ourselves our team is a contender when they realistically arent.

I think there is a 99% certainty that he will retire (from the NHL at least) as a Wing, but what if he approached Holland and asked for a trade. Like I said, just a hypothetical.

The general consensus on the Wings board is that he is back to Russia after his contract for the following reasons
-Him and his wife got divorced and his kids are in Russia
-He still does not speak english fluently, and while well liked, must be feeling somewhat lonely and under expressed in Detroit. He is a well liked guy in the locker room but imagine yourself in a language barrier. It has been reported multiple times he has asked Holland to try to accquire another russian, but we haven't had a player who spoke fluent Russian since Danny Markov (maybe Salei).
-Return home for more money, and it being tax free.

I seriously love the guy, and feel like he is the embodiment of everything that is good with the Wings. That is why I actually would not mind this trade. Let him go out with another cup. He deserves it. If ever another player deserves another Borque treatment, I feel that player would be Pavel Datsyuk

I don't know that the Pens have the assets up front (that they would move) that would make any sense, even if this hypothetical came to fruition. Unless Detroit were looking for a total rebuild return with two blue chip defensive prospects going their way, which I doubt.

Plus, I doubt Bylsma will see any use in Datsyuk on the PK or the 1st unit PP (folks, that's more a comment about Bylsma than Datsyuk, I assure you).

Detroit would need to find a team in a serious win now mode that could deal from a position of strength (a la Kings - Columbus) or a team desperate/looking for a #1 center with assets that could help.

Just spitballing some ideas out;

Datsyuk to Toronto for Kadri + Rielly/Gardiner + _______
Datsyuk to Florida for some of their prospects
Datsyuk to Rangers for Stephan + _______
Datsyuk to Winnipeg for some of their prospects

Malkin can play the wing if Datsyuk is dead set against playing wing for Crosby.

That's 'Bylsma think' for you.

Datsyuk has played with a lot with Zetterberg, with whom he has a natural and obvious chemistry.

So, logically, a Pens fan saying 'if we got Datsyuk' would suggest moving him to Crosby's wing or Malkin to wing to be centered by Datsyuk.

Heaven forbid one think it would be a no-brainer to put Datsyuk on Malkin's wing (thereby giving the Pens an excuse to slide Neal up with Crosby). Those two might never give up the puck.

6 of one half a dozen of the other. I'll worry about arguing lines when Datsyuk arrives in Pittsburgh next week on the express unicorn.

Sutter + TK + choice of Pouliot/Maatta/Dumoulin/Tangradi

I think Sutter could provide the defensive loss of Dats and combined, Sutter and TK could replace the offensive loss of Dats. The d prospect gives them hope of rebuilding the D. Detroit gets younger and gets a bit of capspace.

Datsyuk would be a rotater in Pittsburgh. 1LW, 2LW, 3C...wherever needed.

If it ever happened that Datsyuk were available for trade, I'm not sure if that package would be what Detroit would want.

Of course, maybe OP could provide some guidance here: What would Detroit want IF a development that is pretty inconceivable IMO actually happened?

Only way I see him being moved is if we're offered a current top 6 forward (with top line potential), a top prospect + a 1st. Next year I see the price being cheaper but I don't see the wings trading Datsyuk for anything short of an overpayment right now. The other thing to remember is Datsyuk holds the cards as he has a NTC in his contract.

Datsyuk is now going on 35 years old with a honking 6.7 or whatever contract.

One a one year rental I would pay up a 1st rounder for a playoff run.

I would not pony up a red cent to tie up that much cap space for him any longer than that.

A 28 or 30 year old Datsyuk ? Thats a whole other question.

It's ok, some people in Detroit have a reality check coming soon.

Long overdue. They way they talk about their team and prospects it's soon coming time to come off the "holier than thou" throne.

I for one can't wait.

As I learned from the bogo thread it would take Datsyuk + Smith + Nyquist + 2nd to get anything out of Winnipeg

Teams [Detroit...] are going to find out that they just can't trade their 34, 35 + talents for a boatload young blue chippers and have a one-off accelerated rebuild... especially form teams not ready to contend yet.
