Already says so in the OP, but Vitale is playing tonight.

Hopefully we win tonight. A four point opening weekend would be awesome.

Kunitz, very well done. I have a very big soft spot for that song time period.

I always put Jagr to that song, and I don't feel any ill feelings putting it to the new kids.

I'm not surprised.

BTW, question: Was Vitale not playing yesterday because Jeffrey was seen as a better options, or because Bylsma didn't want any residual 'Flyers trying to kill Vitale because of the playoffs' issues? I personally think it was the latter, as if he was saying 'it's my fourth line center in game one . . . let's not make this a circus'.

In reality it is more like a twelve point opening weekend if we win. In half a season wins are twice as impactful as in a regular season. Wins within the division are worth even more. So a win within your division has the effect of something like three wins in a regular season. A division loss the same way but opposite. Lose a few division games and you could dig a hole hard to climb out of in so few games. Imagine the Steelers losing four division games early in the season. Their season would be over. This year the Pens only play three times the games of the Steelers. Winning both games against the two best teams in our division ON THE ROAD would be huge.

Pens win tonight, 5 4. Rongors can score goals now.

get ready for a ton of ref bias and bettman conspiracy theories. i'm hoping for a huge day from our big guns...as that will incite bitterness about "tanking". oh, and if someone tries take geno's head off, he's not allowed to duck the check.

I reckon he wanted a bit more scoring depth (in theory) to match the scoring depth of the Flyers. I hadn't considered the circus around Vitale option, to be honest.

And heaven forbid someone gets called for holding Geno when he was really just tackling him.

What is worse is that it ends up on the main boards far too often. Every fan base has their 'we was screwed' element. Hell all of us think it at times. I am not sure why but over the years New York and Philadelphia have taken it to extremes. Even when you show them that they got more power plays by far than you they will tell you that you got yours at so called key times or something like that. And most of the threads on the main board complaining about the refs have come from Ranger fans ovrr the years. Obviously it only takes a few to do that. But lucky them, they have most of those few obviously.

Happy to see Tangradi still in the same spot, people were giving him **** yesterday but he got noticeably better as the game progressed, I think by the end of the week we'll see him playing comfortably and he'll stick there.

Hopefully there's not an emotional lull tonight after the win over Philly yesterday. I have this fear that yesterday's game meant so much to them, to show they were past last season's playoff debacle, that their emotions might be spent. Almost like a hangover.

Gonna be an interesting game. Rangers took 7 penalties last night so I expect them to be a lot more disciplined tonight; likewise with the Pens and their 5 penalties last night.

NY's defense last night was really bad, but I think that is to Tortorella's credit. The d-men were playing really deep in the offensive zone and gave quite a few scoring chances to the Bruins as a result. Also, Tort played 4-5 forward PPs the entire night, despite it not paying off. I expect them to be a lot more defensive tonight.

At first, I saw this thread title and paired it with our opponent and was stoked that there was a Sick of it All reference in the title. Then I came into the thread and realized it was actually a wrestling reference. I was saddened. Then I realized the wrestler is wearing an H2O hoodie in that picture, and so he must use that phrase in homage to Sick of it All. Now I am stoked again.

Vitale runs over some people, gets challenged by Callahan, and puts a beat-down on him.

This will happen in warm ups.

Hope fully since we don't play again until Wednesday Bylsma will let the horses run. 16 minutes for Malkin? Come on now.
