So, who saw Russo's article about Granlund and the media?

Nice read.

He was visible in the wrong ways early, then invisible, then scored a goal and had some sick fluttering saucers, and then (my favorite play of the game for him, and most underrated) blocked a scorching Aves slapshot from the point which may have tied the game. That blocked shot won me over. He is one of us!

Before he scored his goal, he got noticed more by me because he actually laid a good hit along the boards early in the second. That was the moment that told me he was starting to feel his game a bit more.

Win faceoffs, follow through on timely checks, block shots... it's the little things sometimes that shows a player is getting to his game.

I thought he played a solid two-way game and showed pretty good speed when he wanted. I thought he did tremendous the first couple periods in the faceoff circle.

I was surprised how good he was in the faceoffs actually. First period he was visibly very nervous and running around the rink, overplaying a lot. Then second period onwards he kept improving and in the third he was clearly already more comfortable, for example when they got some proper offensive zone possession going. The goal was the icing on the cake of course for his debut.

Now I can't wait to follow his acclimation to the NHL game. I have no doubt he will make an impact this season already.

I think the feeling out process will last into the first quarter of this shortened season. New linemates and of course it's not the AHL, not that the AHL this year was void of talent or anything. I firmly believe he will figure it all out, regardless of what his stats say this first half season.

Yes when he started to engage himself physically he was much better. He sure isn't afraid to mix it up and the more I watch the more I think skating will NOT be a problem with Mig64

Granlund looked a lot better today, his passes are a sight! That no look between the legs pass back to Cullen in the slot was just filthy!

Anybody know what he does to keep getting thrown out of the faceoff circle?

Must have something to do with different FO regulations between FEL and NHL.

how many faceoffs did he take this game? nhl.com says he won 75% of them, so i guess he took 4? and got thrown out like 15 times

Whatever the stat sheet says, he took a few and did well, but was getting tossed a ton like Mikko usually does.

I didn't understand. Seemed like he just stepped in and he was being thrown out.

Also, he probably is a little more aggressive than he typically would be because Cullen can step in and take the draw if he gets kicked out.

In all honesty I know the basics, but my faceoff rule knowledge is horribly rusty as well. The one thing I do know is that you can no longer use your hand to win due to Konopka.

76.3 Procedure As soon as the line change procedure has been completed by the Referee and he lowers his hand to indicate no further changes, the Linesman conducting the face-off shall blow his whistle. This will signal to both teams that they have no more than five (5) seconds to line up for the ensuing face-off. At the end of the five (5) seconds (or sooner if both centers are ready), the Linesman will conduct a proper face-off. If, however:
(i) One or both centers are not positioned for the face-off,
(ii) One or both centers refrain from placing their stick on the ice,
(iii) Any player has encroached into the face-off circle,
(iv) Any player makes physical contact with an opponent, or
(v) Any player who lines up for the face-off in an off-side position,
the Linesman shall have the offending center(s) replaced immediately prior to dropping the puck.
In the last two (2) minutes of regulation time or any time in overtime, the Linesman will still blow his whistle to initiate the face-off, but the five (5) second time limit will not be enforced. However, players must abide by the verbal directions given by the Linesman in his attempt to conduct a fast and fair face-off.

No after watching both Minnesota games i think Granlund is little bit out of the game when our team has the puck. In my mind is taking about five games and then really starts to happen
