- Powerplay conversions.
- Making Hartnell pay whenever he was in the box.
- Some solid hits
- Otter getting on the board on a beauty feed from Poms.
- In what I've seen, liked the Regehr-Myers pair (haven't watched all of the second period yet... I reserve the right to change my mind. ).
- CoHo hustling and being rewarded with a goal.
- VanMassivehoser breaking things Buffalo's way with that late whistle.
- Stafford dropping the mitts. Yes please. Bigger is fine, getting everyone into the mindset that they're not a team to **** with is best.

The Bad -

- Missing much of the second while my son's team was getting curb-stomped by two different select travel squads. Whoever thinks that's good for some house league players ought to be punted in the potatoes.
- Didn't think the first Flyers goal should've been waived off. It was really weak.

The Ugly -

- Did I mention watching 8 and 9 year old selects pound on a house league team twice? When it's 20-2 total for a two-game set and the goal on the team that got lit up is the best player on the ice....
That is because it was originally supposed to be a select tournament. They just didn't get enough teams and put house teams in at every level.

I think Grigs will stay. Leino/Gerbe will help when they get back.

I didn't like Leo on the first Flyer goal (that counted). He didn't engage Couturier at all -- not that the puck doesn't necessarily go in off a body but still, put a man on a man.

I thought Hodgson was the best foward on this ice.

Nice to see NHL hockey again.
The entire team playing thru 1st period jitters and throughout the game looked better.
Vanek with an amazing game.
Hodgson looked good.
Grigorenko was perfect for his first game. He didn't hurt his line or team.
Ott is a nice addition. Stirs the pot, and has decent hands.
Hecht was fine. What you expect from him is what you get.
4th line was a pest all game.
Stafford sticking up for Ennis

B:
Hartnell
Bryzgalov's rebound control
Lapses in D zone coverage at times
NBC coverage

U:
The negative hypercritical knee jerk reactions and sweeping generalizations are uncalled for. Wait for a multi game pattern before your comments can be taken seriously. You just look foolish otherwise.

A lot of rust, as previously mentioned. But...

Good: -Ott plays like a champion and is rewarded with a goal.
-Vanek was dangerous all game.
-Decent first game for Grigs. Was invisible at times but drew a penalty by going hard to the net. Also a beautiful no look pass to Ott.
-Props to Stafford for stepping up and fighting.
-V-H-P as a line had a pretty solid game.
-Miller held his own.

Bad: -Despite the goal, Myers was sloppy carrying the puck all game long. Played some good D, though.
-Ennis needs to find his legs.
-Bad puck possession. I'm sure it'll improve...but receiving passes is definitely something Lindy should work on in practice.

Ugly: -I can't think of much.

G: Vanek, Hodgson, Myers, Toughness, Power Play

B: Regehr?

U: Refs. We deserved to win and probably would have anyways, but Philly got shafted a few times.

Really? There was no talk of it being anything but a house tournament that I heard. Eh.

Back to the game:

Another good I missed -- Foligno. Kid took a couple runs at guys, took Hartnell off the ice, teed up Luke Schenn again and if the strips hadn't jumped in I would've loved to see them have a tilt.

I attribute this win and anything positive in the future to Derek Roy being of this team.

He definitely looked way better than at the end of last season. I think this will be a big year for him and that he'll really end up breaking out.

Good:
- Vanek. A 5-point night shouldn't go in the Bad or Ugly lol.

- Physical play. So happy to see players other than Kaleta throwing out some solid checks. Foligno, Ott, Regehr. Probably see Scott and/or McCormick participating in that too when needed and when healthy. Stafford with a random fight (took a nasty right in it too).

- Grigorenko didn't look lost at all. Didn't make a big impact but made a few great, hardworking plays. Always seemed to know where his linemates were... and it's his first NHL game.

- Really solid power plays. Once they broke into the zone, the passing was great. Can't remember the last time the power play was that consistent.

- Glad we're the ones injuring teams for a change.

Bad:
- The refs helped us out a bit more than I'd like. The goaltender interference call was really weak.

- Some sloppy play, especially in the second. Hopefully it's just rust. Though admittedly (and maybe it's just Buffalo pessimism)... I feel like this team always has a bit too much sloppiness in their game.

Ugly:
- Hartnell. Two hits from behind, two smaller guys. Meh.

I started to type out the good and realized that just about every forward was going to get a mention. The only complaints I have were that Leopold had a tough game and RR's wheels are pretty much gone. It will be a source of frustration this year. Also, they badly need a guy who can be counted on on big draws. Other than that, I really liked the look of this team.

U: Putting Grigorenko with scrubs, hopefully Leino can play tomorrow because Grigs should be put on a scoring line, not on a ****ing line with Kaleta.
Disagree. He will ultimately be on a scoring line. It does not hurt that he plays with two defensively responsible players in Ott and Kaleta with leino out.

I though Hecht was excellent.

Poms also.

TV seemed a bit sluggish, but really picked it up.

Great game saving play by Rehger.

Hodgson will fit nicely with Vanek and Poms.

Good to get Philly on the second of a back to back.

Refs tilted our way today for sure. Two goals that could have counted. First more than the second.

G: The Power Play!, GRIT (intelligent grit too)!, Ott, Vanek, Hodgson, Sulzer, Hecht & our luck on some of the calls to be honest. Classy way to welcome the fans back with players and ownershipe there early to greet fans.

B: Miller a little shaky on some rebounds. Fearful we will be a little flat against Toronto tomorrow.

U: NA

Glad to have the win and the points. Couldn't have asked for a better start.

I thought that was key. First game action of the year while the Flyers played yesterday, they needed to get the legs moving. It was pretty ugly and lots of neutral zone play, but they were solid defensively early and that let them start to settle into their game. I think shots were 1-0 Philly through the first 10 minutes or so.

Beating the Flyers, I had forgotten what that feels like.
Stafford sticking up for Ennis... somehow it feels even better when a guy like that throws down than one of the more usual suspects.
Vanek/CoHo/Pommers = legit top line.

B:
Reffing. Had a few calls go our way though, so can't complain.

U:

Good:
TV - CoHo - Pommer: They were firing on all cylinders, especially after Vanek was benched for a bit. They look like a true top line, much scarier then TV - Adam - Pommer last year. -_-;;

Vanek: 2g3a is a career high for him IIRC. Loved his game for the most part tonight.

Ott: Ott will be a fan favorite in here by week two if he keeps this up. He was hitting guys, drawing penalties, dropping gloves, running his mouth all game. He even put in the first goal. Nothing bad to say about Ott today.

Stafford: To quote the grinch, his balls grew 3 times this day, dropping the gloves to protect Ennis.

Attitude: Nobody on this team was taking **** from anybody. Every time one of our skill players was even looked at funny, our larger guys were up in their faces giving them something more painful to think about. I love seeing that. That attitude leads to wins.

Finish: That goal by CoHo was the kind of goal we were all begging for last year. A nail in the coffin goal putting it out of the opponants reach, on a perfect opportunity. Last season that puck just sits in the crease until Brytz recovers.

Bad:

Leopold: Ugh he frustrated me. Worst player on the ice.
Reffs: Boned Philly pretty badly today, also had a few terrible calls on us like the diving penalty on ott.
Ruff: Putting Hecht on every freaking line! The dude needs to stay in the bottom six to stay healthy.....come on man!

Ugly:
Hartnell. What a goon.

Intriguing: Foligno - Ennis - Stafford matched up against the Gireux line all game. They seemed to do a good job at it too. Maybe they have better defensive chops then we all thought.
