Long overdue. They way they talk about their team and prospects it's soon coming time to come off the "holier than thou" throne.

I for one can't wait.

Dats is still an all world player, he may have declined a little, but even after his negligible decline he's still better than 98% of the players in the NHL. Yes he has a larger price tag and he will be a FA after next year at 37(?), but he would still garner a good return.

Top 6 forward/top 4 D/1/2rd pick would be what I would expect.

If the Blues were to make a trade I would say something like:
Oshie/Cole/1st or Stewart/Polak/2nd

I'm not saying the Blues SHOULD OR WOULD, just trying to put a value on a player like Dats, THAT'S ALL!

I think it'd be wise for Detroit to do a quick rebuild. Not seeing a whole lot of ways they accomplish that outside of moving a guy like Datsyuk.

I'd love to have Datsyuk. Him and Kadri in shootouts. Datsyuk can even mentor Kadri a little.

Datsyuk for Grabovski and Franson + 5th.

Just spitballing some ideas out;

Datsyuk to Toronto for Kadri + Rielly/Gardiner + _______
Datsyuk to Florida for some of their prospects
Datsyuk to Rangers for Stephan + _______

Datsyuk to Winnipeg for some of their prospects
The two in bold are interesting, the other two make no sense for those teams.

Would like Klefbom and some but doubt you're willing to give him up.

Only realistic choice from Oilers I see is picks.

From Washington, I'd do Johansson+Forsberg+2014 1st+Jeff Schultz(cap).

Assuming Ribeiro is leaving after this season.

I think that would be overkill for 1.5 years of Datsyuk.

We'll happily attempt to sign him as a UFA. That's about it, tho.

Actually, Merrill +1st isn't bad imo, Merrill is Michigan boy iirc... But you have to give up either this or next years first? And you hold the draft this year and host would probably want to have a 1st rounder. Well, maybe that won't be a deal breaker but still.

But maybe Devils fans see it differently.

Merrill + Josefson + 1st for Dats? that's if Detroit is looking for a quick rebuild this year

That's fair value imo, but some teams could give up more if Dats really would be on the block.

Datsyuk has one more year on his contract after this at 6.7.

I doubt the Wings are actually shopping him, but just hypothetically what would you give up.

edit: just gonna post my response here to likely replies just so this thread isn't saturated with them.

It's not one game. This team has been a pseudo contender for two years now, and its only going to get worse before it gets better. The Wing's core is aging and I don't think they will be able to win anything significant with it. I'd rather not be stuck in Calgary territory of trying to still convince ourselves our team is a contender when they realistically arent.

I think there is a 99% certainty that he will retire (from the NHL at least) as a Wing, but what if he approached Holland and asked for a trade. Like I said, just a hypothetical.

The general consensus on the Wings board is that he is back to Russia after his contract for the following reasons
-Him and his wife got divorced and his kids are in Russia
-He still does not speak english fluently, and while well liked, must be feeling somewhat lonely and under expressed in Detroit. He is a well liked guy in the locker room but imagine yourself in a language barrier. It has been reported multiple times he has asked Holland to try to accquire another russian, but we haven't had a player who spoke fluent Russian since Danny Markov (maybe Salei).
-Return home for more money, and it being tax free.

I seriously love the guy, and feel like he is the embodiment of everything that is good with the Wings. That is why I actually would not mind this trade. Let him go out with another cup. He deserves it. If ever another player deserves another Borque treatment, I feel that player would be Pavel Datsyuk
Great minds think alike -- I was thinking this exact same thing last night! As a Canucks fan, as well as a life long Red Wings fan, I was thinking maybe - just maybe - it would make sense for the Wings to move Datsyuk. For many of the reasons you mentioned. And because he's 34, and could get the wings a huge return which would allow them to retool quickly, if they want to get a bit younger.

And because I'm a Canucks fan, and I saw Vancouver get absolutely demolished last night and laughed out of their own building... I was thinking Vancouver could be an interesting fit. Pretty good chance for him to win another cup, and Vancouver sure as hell needs some help.

Something like 1 roster player + 1 prospect + 3 1st round picks?

Teuvo + Stalberg + 1st + Beach/Morin/Pirri

The Hawks would have the two most complete centers in the league. Sweet jesus....

If the Hawks won another cup after this trade it wouldn't bother me at all to watch Stalberg and Teuvo devlop into studs for Detroit and stay there the rest of their careers.
