The Canucks are doing this to themselves by keeping Luongo so long. There will be a point where any return will be enough for getting rid of the controversy around Lou.
Edit: I bet the third jersey's are WHA themed. I wonder if the Oilers got approval from the league to do this a season earlier because of the lockout. Kind of a thing to get fans jazzed up about the season.
I really hope we can beat them. I'm a little worried they will come out hard after getting thumped last night, hopefully we can make it two in a row. 5+ goals on Loluongo please.
I'm a bit worried about them having a bounce back game after getting trounced last night. Gonna have to play it tight tonight and hopefully Dubnyk is ready
It's just frustrating starting a guy like Potter that adds nearly nothing for value.
He is actually alright on the PP, but will never see PP time. The guy should simply never be out on a PK, far too soft.
So are we relying on him to be a good puck mover 5v5? We have Whitney, Petry, and Schultz to do that job.
If we wanted to have a soft RH guy we should have kept Gilbert, who when compared to Potter looks like Shea Weber.
Fistric brings an element that the Oilers don't have, has much more experience in the NHL, has more promise, and is younger.
Hopefully Potter is awful and Ralph sees it pretty quickly.
I totally agree Potter adds nothing to the roster that others dont already do much better. Fistric is the only guy back there who can do what he does as well as he does. People who are saying Fistric is only a #6/7 guy will be proven wrong soon enough.
This could be a real statement game early on, if we jump on Van early and often there could be trouble in Vancouver. That said if the lineup remains the same as it's been speculated to be and the score is out of hand are we equipped to deal with the rough stuff?
Ben Eager and Darci Hordichuk say YES.... I hate Eager but the guy is tough... And a *****. Anyways I think the Oilers will win coming from a Canucks Fan. If Vancouver wins it will be because of teh Sedins our Defense and Schneids.

Seriously, I am some strange combination of nervous and excited. I haven't felt this way about an Oiler game since game 7 of the SCF in 2006. WTF is with that? Is it because this is the year that the team has to prove itself, thus justifying the last 6 years of rebuilding, and on my part personal anguish? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Pretty excited for this! I'll be front and center (well, front and goal line, TBH) tonight. Not sure which of my jerseys I'll be rocking, but I'm leaning toward my ugly ass Mcfarlane jersey with Smyth on the back. Gotta show some love for the old fart. Oilers are money on opening night -- can't remember the last opener we lost -- so I'm expecting a big night!
I hate the Canucks, I'm excited for this game. I am not excited about Potter playing but then I look at the Canucks defence and know a few of them are overrated. Our top six is filthy!
The Canucks will start Roberto Luongo as they play for the second night in a row to begin the season. Luongo relieved Cory Schneider on Saturday during Vancouver's 7-3 loss to the Ducks.
"It was unacceptable to play that way and put my team in that situation and not even have a chance to win," Schneider said. "It's something you live and learn. I'm not going to think too long about this one."
But Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault said on Sunday that he had always planned to start Luongo against Edmonton.
"Nothing happened (on Saturday) night that would make me change our plan," explained Vigneault.
I could see this happen, Katz has to figure out some way top make back some the money he lost losing revenue on 22 home games during the lockout. Hopefully with the 3rd sweaters and some additional games after the regular season he will be able to build that new arena!
