Lupul re-signs with Toronto 5 years (5.25 average)
However this probably secures a Kessel contract, keeps a 20 goal scorer on our roster and allows us to let the mediocre players (Mac/Bozak/etc) walk away.
What is up with guys with Frattin avatars wanting to let our good NHL players walk or dump them or waive them?
TSN/Sportsnet said hemsky's contract was the worst 2 yr 5m PER. cause he is injury prone.
Last 5 years:
Hemsky's
284GM 74G 177A .88PPG
Season Average:
57GM 15G 35A 50P
though he has 3 - ppg seasons and two lesser seasons.
I was one who did not want to spend 5M.
But a 2 year term fits our currnt prospect Growth.
Lupul is more injury prone than hemsky.
It Surprised me!
5 Years:
278GM 94G 119A .74PPG
Season Average:
56GM 19G 24A 43P
A 5 year Contract for .25 a year more for a guy who averaged 7P less per season.
Sportsnet/TSn we have a worse contract.
Stop trying so hard...Hemsky WAS better than Lupul, he isn't anymore. 5 years is a stupid sample size that obviously doesn't factor into either of the deals you're comparing.
Read topics such as "post-operative sepsis" and then come back. No one wants to read your ignorant posts. Septicemia (ie. blood infection) post-back surgery has NO impact on a hockey player's physical ability post-event. Nor he at increased risk of redevelopment of sepsis once it is cleared. Chronic bilateral rotator cuff pathology has an incredible post-event physical impairment. Repeat injury to surgically repaired shoulders is significant. The health issues are not comparable.
And don't bother arguing with me with random google facts. I have far more education in the field of medicine.
A little bit of an overpayment, but really, the Leafs had no choice. The wing position is relatively easily replaceable compared to others, IMO, but Toronto doesn't have the luxury of ready-to-play top-line forwards. That said, Leafs fans who mocked the Zajac signing better take a good hard look at the status-quo.

The multiple back surgeries and original surgical site infection another matter entirely, however.
Why is it so hard for leaf fans to see that this deal actually is pretty bad. First, its way to early to give him an extenstion, second, way to many years for an injury prone guy. Guy might of had a solid season last year but you can't just throw him a 5 year deal cause of that, you gotta see if he can keep that up and it would of been much smarter for nonis to wait at least 30 games into the season this year to decide... I really hope im wrong and he stays healthy and productive.

Huh? He's UFA July first. There's 47 games left in his Leaf career under the old contract.
Now you Toronto fans can understand what we dealt with for the Zajac signing
I never comment on signings of other teams when they're announced. The fact is, the vast majority thought Lupul would never re-sign in Toronto. Now he does and it's a terrible contract
The fact is, guys like Lupul and Zajac would have gotten massive deals as UFA's.
Leafs' fans will be asking for his head once Lupul reverses to his usual pattern of inconsistency. Cap hit is too high for what he brings and the contract is a couple years too long. Bad signing overall.
It's not a bad price, it's just too long for a guy who is as inconsistent and injury prone as Lupul.
If he puts up a PPG like he did last season for the the next 5 years, he'll be worth every penny, but that chances of that happening are so slim it's not worth giving him 5 years.
I'm sure the Leafs saved some money by giving Lupul the term he wanted but at 5.25 I don't think they saved enough to give him 5 years. Who knows, time will tell.
Don't know if I'd call a guy that's been over 50 points one time and his career high is 67 points and even managed to get injured in his career year a ''star.'' On a good team he's a second line player.
