I'd agree with you and your comparison to Alfie. He's committed to that community BUT keep in mind that Jarome is Canadian. He grew up watching Gretzky's Oilers win the cup over and over in his home town. Signing with the Flames will assure he retires without a Stanley Cup to his name. His boyhood dreams will be forgotten and there will never be another chance to achieve what he's worked his whole life for. He'll leave the Flames and sign with the Penguins or another contender then return and retire with the Flames.

Haha, the new faceoff rules already proving how ******** they are. Rangers score on a 5 on 3 because of it.

What new faceoff rule? The one where you can't use your hand to win a faceoff anymore?

I guess so. Some NYR guy got a penalty for using his hands to win face-off. Wasn't aware of the rule myself. It's a dumb way to win the face-off but don't know it warranted a penalty rule change.

...And the Flames showed off how much they suck in the second period. Sharks scored three unanswered goals.

You can thank former Ottawa Senator Zenon Konopka for that haha.

Eh. It's only going to be penalized until guys realize they can't do it anymore.

It's one of those "penalties" you won't see called ever again after a dozen games, because guys are going to realize they'll get 2 mins for it, and stop doing it.

You can make that argument, but I'm very against giving out a penalty for it. Blow the play dead, sure. No penalty though, that is overkill.

Do you guys think this is the year where Heatley returns to the form he was in during those two years with the Sens? I know it's early, but he already has two goals, and he looks pretty good so far this game.

Also, if not, do you think he can ever get back to that form?

Parise with a huge one timer to get his first goal in a Wild sweater. 1-0 Minnesota.

It's exactly a hand pass, and was called as such whenever a player did it in the offensive zone. The thing is, a Penalty seems kind of overkill for what at any other point in the game would just lead to a stoppage in play and the puck back one zone. I guess you could argue its now an intentional delay of game though, and I do like that it takes away an advantage that the defensive center had on the draw.

Meh, not really much of a deterrent though. Won't take long for players to adapt, and then this will all be forgotten.

Calgary, Toronto and Montreal will all be picking in the top 5 this year (unless the Flames traded their first, I can't be bothered to look). Winnipeg might not be that far off either. Canadian hockey teams are in sad state.

Montreal has the chance to rebuild properly. Galchenyuk, Price, Paciorety and Subban are a fantastic core to build around. If Bergevin has any sense and doesn't let pride get in the way, they can be a legit contender not far down the road.

Winnipeg is doing a good job of rebuilding.

Calgary... that's just sad. They should have blown it up 5 years ago.

Toronro? I don't even know what to think about that organization anymore.

Anyways, I don't see any shame in finishing near the bottom if you're committed to the rebuild.
