I agree in principle, but at this point they are short a centre, period. Ideally it would be a top 6 centre, but barring that, ANY centre would be an improvement over no centre - and Gomez does have some recent experience in the top 6. They will be platooning the ice time anyway, might as well have one more servicable player and keep them fresh.

If it's for under 1 million then it is absolutely a good deal, good luck Gomez.

Gomez is a perfect fit with the Sharks. It's a match made in heaven really.

Agreed...with no pressure from an albatross contract, might give the Sharks a solid 3rd line C, while in Mtl he couldn't maintain NHL levels. In any case the Sharks don't have much to lose.

True. I just don't think they would have gone to the effort of having him pick a number right away if they weren't intending on signing him eventually.

Good for the Sharks and Gomez. Low risk signing, if he picks things up it's a decent deal , if not they play someone else. It's not like they''re signing him to be on their 1st line...

Scott Gomez has lost his vision and can only shoot the puck 5 mph. How could he possibly help anyone.

That's 100% true. Why not take a chance on a cheap deal? You never know.....maybe he will be comeback olayer of the year before it's all said and done and maybe he'll be out of hockey all together.

Low risk.

Centering our third line with speedy wingers. At under 1M, it's low risk (potentially) high reward

Take it from a Devils fan (the only team he ever excelled with) he NEVER was a good puck shooter. Even when he was putting up 70 point seasons. He is a playmaker.

The guy from goal line to offensive blue line is a beaut. But when he crosses that line he turns into a completely different player and has no idea what to do in an offensive situation. You guys will love him in the dressing room and on the bench, but if youre looking for any offensive output at all, you will be seriously heartbroken.

Per Dreger

Scott Gomez should officially become a member of the San Jose Sharks today. At least it's headed in that direction now.

As per @DarrenDreger, Scott Gomez likely to sign with SJS today. But if so, he will not be in lineup against Edmonton tonight.

Scott Gomez set to sign with San Jose

Probably a one year deal similar to Redden's with the Blues

He's branded as a playmaker, but his passing ability is not any better than his shooting ability. I don't really remember him setting a good play or making a beautiful pass that leads directly to a goal, even during his successful season in Montreal. He makes most of his points because he's one of the last 3 players who touched the puck before the goal, most often because he was the one carrying it in the offensive zone, and because he was getting a lot of powerplay time.

Look 2 messages above mine slick. You can see the other threads title before it got merged.

And to get back on topic, I can't wait to see Gomez as a shark. He is the type of player we need to set up Wingels and TJ to give us scoring depth. He's also a really nice person Irl. Reminds me of a JR type when it comes to the fans.
