Murray looks like he's 300lbs and towing a ship. So the less time he gets the better.

If we could trade Murray for a mid-second rounder I'd jump all over it. In this draft, it's as good as a first.

We need to see atleast one good game from Murray over the next few games to have that chance. With his play today not sure if a second rounder would happen.

Detroit might want him after they couldn't stop a nose bleed.

I'm pretty sure Murray lost the race on at least two icing calls. I'm cool with trading him away.

Murray klobbering Jackman into his own guy was pretty much the only thing he did, well he also blocked some shots on the PK.

Pretty good game after the 1st. Wingels, Clowe, and Murray sucked throughout though.

Murray was the only one that stood out for me. Clowe was solid and looks to be in good shape and moved well.

I disagree. I thought Clowe had a horrible game. He was weak along the boards, had slower than normal foot-speed, and tried way too many hopeful passes.

Clowe looked better/quicker than last year. Murray and Wingels both sucked. More surprised about Wingels to be honest.

Since Edmonton isn't a physical team, hoping to see Sheppard in that game instead of Frazer.

i'm going to guess we are going to see a boat load of different combinations on the 3rd and 4th lines for at least the next 10 games.

On another note, I thought Stuart had a great game today. He was probably the best PKer out of the defensemen.

I only saw the 2nd and 3rd (lucky me), but I also thought he didn't look bad. He seemed less slow, and was in good position several times. He also had PP time at one point which seemed odd, but maybe he's all better now.

I have a feeling Stuart/Vlasic will be doing the heavy lifting defensively this year. Both were good and physical in the corners and used their sticks very well.

My Takes: (first game expectations)

Niemi: A+ = holy crap, is this Antti or his alternate dimension evil twin?
JT: B = Not his angry self, but still pretty good.
Stuart: B = Nothing spectacular but he looked solid and comfortable
Vlasic: A = Steady Eddy as usual.
Havlat: B+ = Looked just a little bit out of sync, but thats excuseable
Marleau: A = Two goals, hard to get on his case
Boyle: B = Again, looked a bit out of sorts, but not for lack of effort.
Pavelski: B- = Looked a little invisible tonight
Clowe: C+ = Better than last year, but still not right.
Couture: B+ = His line's success was mostly his doing
Burish: C = I really didnt notice him much.
Wingels: C = Every good shift seemed to be followed by a major mistake.
McLaren: C = Big improvement over his previous worthlessness, but still fairly worthless, bring on Gomez.
Galiardi: C+ = Lots of good work, no finish, hope that clears up soon.
Desjardins: B = Doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing out there.
Murray: C- = Sadly it looks like Murray is still behind the 8 ball.
Irwin: A = Kid looked like he belonged. It was pretty great to see a guy skating with Boyle that can actually keep up with him.
Braun: C+ = barely noticed him tonight. My bet is his hand is still a big problem. Plus Murray.

Honestly, couldn't ask for a much better first game of the season though.

Im most happy about where they scored their goals from, they actually got to the front of the net! Also 2 even strength goals! Hopefully they keep it going next game.

Also Irwin looks awesome. I was expecting him to be a much worse skater.
